No progress since my last post as I've been out of action with a cold/throat infection. Hope to get out to the car at the weekend.
Won't be back on the road for a long time! Matrix and other parts to be replaced, evaporator to be pressure tested, new foam tape to be applied throughout the assembly and dash, everything to go back in & be re-fitted, new coolant added, air-con system re-gassed, crossing fingers that nothing leaks..! Then I have some seat mounts to fabricate for new seats, then have new diff fitted, new swaybar fitted, front lights out for cleaning and re-fitting of new HID system....

I've just sold my Soarer... to Mike Beck! I've bought a Falcon G6E Turbo to replace it. Very sad to see it go after 9 years, but Mike will look after it.
Your not wrong about that Matthew. Put a F6 Cooler, Tune and Injectors and it will be so much better, there is so much factory power reduction stuff on the tune that holds back the power delivery.

dash's / HVAC are big parts subject to a lot of temperature changes so you get lots of shrinking and expanding that will work things lose and then rattle

1 x aircon assembly. Made from two parts, upper half, lower half. Lots of screws, lots of plastic trim to be careful with, and lots and lots of dust.
You can see I've munted the main air vent panel in the middle. I will be replacing nearly all the vent panels as their foam all seem to be soaked in coolant

OK, so I have bought a 2nd hand, complete air-con assembly from a wreckers, out of a UZZ31 Soarer (non-EMV).
It's got all the bits - heater core, evaporator etc. and it's in better condition than my own. I'm pretty happy.
On inspection it appears to be identical to mine, however I have noticed a difference in the main fan area:
Old unit:

New unit (photo taken through grille, haven't opened it up yet):

I think what I am looking at in the old unit is the blower motor controller, and it's equivalent in the newer unit. The old unit doesn't have a part number, but as noted, the newer part number is 87165-14010
My question is, will this cause problems when I go to connect everything back up?
(I have asked the wrecker for the year of the car, or the VIN)

I've also confirmed that the wiring harness that drapes over and down the front of the aircon assembly is different between EMV and non-EMV UZZ31 Soarers...
My EMV harness has extra orange coloured plugs at both ends which I am 99% sure caters to some particular requirement of the EMV.
Im almost positive the UZZ31 (non-EMV) at the wreckers was also a '91, so it emphasises the need to ideally get a replacement air con assembly from an identical year/model Soarer. I know there are also design changes that came later to the climate control units, around '95 from what I've read, that further complicates issues.

Hi Mark,
I don't know about EMV versus non EMV but that is a later model heater fan unit the one you have circled & if it does all plug in which I don't think it will the fan speeds will be up the duff, can you swap over the resistor block you have circled, its not going to fit perfectly but you need to use all the old bits ..

Hi Robert - thanks for the suggestion, but I can't/won't swap the resistor block - doing so would entail also having to use the new wiring harness without the correct plugs: not only is it missing the orange plugs for the EMV, it also doesn't have what I think is a white, oblong temperature probe/block which inserts through the front of the assembly, into the chamber which houses the evaporator.
Even if I did succeed in cobbling the new resistor block into my set up somehow, I suspect I'd get all sorts of errors and problems later on when it's all re-installed & I switch everything back on Like you said, fan speeds will probably be all over the place, just like what I've read here in this forum.
Also, the hole in the fan area where the resistor block pokes through in the newer aircon assembly is a smaller size and shape. I'm not going to attempt to cut it to size to accommodate the older model when the old blower model is working fine.
No big loss really - I have got replacement vent gates and a replacement heater core which is all I needed. I will just transplant those into my old assembly. Perhaps 15 minutes work.
