Hi all, I have been searching threads and I keep seeing people say the 1jz-gte compressor is the same as the 2jz-ge.

But nobody really confirms they have installed a 2jz-ge compressor without any problems.

My JZZ30 compressor was dead about a month ago. I got one from a wrecker for $100, it was a bit whiney but was super cold.

Now I am getting the blinking A/C light again. I am thinking the compressor is gone again. I have found a compressor from Denso (part no. 471-1151) for $321.22 plus shipping.

It says it's for a 2jz-ge SC300, I just need to know if they are a direct replacement.

well I am 100% sure its the compressor now. I did the diagnostics and get code 21 (compressor lock).

I also revved the engine whilst pressing the AC on, the compressor kicked in and then smoke started coming out from under the bonnet, smelt like burnt rubber so the compressor is completely stuffed. I only just bought it as well, it's not the cost of the compressor either its the $300 to fit and regas.

Now I am shopping for a replacement, so if anyone can confirm the above I will order it today online.

Didn't the wrecked give you any warranty?
Which wrecked was it from?

Yeah he did, apparently my mechanic did not put any lubricant in it so that's why it's stuffed.

I'm trying other wreckers now. If I can get another used one and get it fitted for $200-300 then I'm happy.

From now on, I'm getting the supplier of the part to fit it, that way there's no mucking around if it fails.

PS. Do these compressors need lubricant? I called me mechanic and he says nah they don't need any. And the wrecker is saying they do.

Yes, they do. Special lubricating oil needs to be put in when the refrigerant charge is being done, or they will seize up, as you found.

OK I'll make sure it's lubricated next time.

Can anyone comment on the compatibility between SC300 and JZZ30?

Found a supplier online from the US Coolzone who can get one to me for like $220.

I found one at a wrecker for $250 without installation. Another wrecker thinks he has one but not sure, he wants to compare the two. He can install it to which will get me a better price.

Ultimately I'd love to get a brand new one for $220 but I am just not sure on the compatibility.

Got my previous uzz31 compressor changed with one bought off Ebay:

Link:
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/coolzoneacparts/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

When it came, the bearing was slightly not aligned so my mechanic changed it for around $30, after i complained to coolzoneacparts, they refunded me the exact amount that i paid to get the bearing changed. After all that fuss and installation, the compressor was running perfectly for 5 months, where i met an accident and sold the wreck.

Just an alternative in case you can't find a replacement for yours.

Yeah doesn't really help me as I need a jzz30 compressor. I'm trying to figure out if compressor is the same as the v6 sc300.

Thanks for the feedback on coolzone though, they sound pretty reputable.

I just had to replace the compressor on my jzz31 2JZ-GE it's the same as a jzz30 tt soarer's, I actually had a spare compressor laying around, which was different
i assume it was off a v8 so I had my mechanic change the top part with all the hoses from my original not working compressor too the working one
the compressors are the same just the top part with the hose connections is different, and that just bolts on and off.

Hope that helps!

That's great thanks!

At a guess I would say you actually had a JZZ30 compressor.

From what I can gather, they are the same actual compressor but the top plates are different. You have confirmed this!

The v8 is a completely different compressor. Different part no. from Denso. etc.

Looks like I should have my solution then. I have a wrecker who has one so I am getting it fitted on Saturday.

If it turns out he has the v8 compressor then I'm out of luck, but that just means I will have to order a 2jz-ge one from coolzone USA and change the top plate.

Thanks for the input, I will post back with some details after Saturday. I'll take some photo's of the 2 compressors and write down part numbers. I might even take some photo's showing how to change the top plates. There is a lack of solid, comfirmed info here about 1jz-gte and 2jz-ge compressor compatibility.

OK, so I got the A/C compressor changed.

The wrecker pulled one out of a 1998 VVT-I Soarer. So unfortunately I still cannot confirm whether the SC300 fits.

They look exactly the same the only thing you will probably need to swap over is the top plate from your old compressor.

Also change the top plate gasket which can be bought from Ashdown Ingram.

The top plate itself on some cars, cant remember for jzz30, but I know jza70 for example has 2 blocked off ports on the side that are blocked off with yellow looking plates held on by 2 bolts, these can leak sometimes and the leak is very hard to spot once on car, It is a good idea to replace those o-rings, the problem is you cant buy the same size o-ring, Ashdown/Ingram have one that's slightly bigger which just fits, just don't tighten the bolts extremely tight you may put too much pressure on the ring as it's fatter than original so it protrudes out more.
