Hey guys, I was hoping someone could explain to me what the A/C Pressure Switch does, and what it looks like. I ran the A/C Diagnostics and it is showing there is a problem there (23). Any help would be appreciated.

I am pretty certain that low charge pressure will show up as a "23-A/C Pressure Switch" error.
Is your A/C blowing hot air and is the compressor clutch not engaging?

Brett, thanks for the quick reply. Yes my A/C is just blowing hot air. How can I tell if the compressor clutch is engaging or not?

I'd just take it to someone but it is hard at the moment cause I need my car.

Anyone able to add anything else to this? Any further info would really be a help.

Usually you can see if the centre bit inside the pulley (on the AC compressor) is turning or not when the engine is running and the A/C turned on. If it's not turning then the clutch is not engaging.

Open bonnet, engine running, AC off. Look at the AC pump, you can see that the front part of the pulley where the belt is is turning, but the back half isn't. The clutch assembly is inside there. switch AC on and have another look, the entire pulley assembly should now be turning.

[edit] what Dan says too.

The pump apparently won't engage if the AC gas pressure is too low.

Looks like I've got exactly the same symptoms with my A/C. Error code 23 from the diagnostics, and the compressor clutch doesn't engage with the A/C switched on. I got it regassed a while ago, and the compressor engaged then, but I was still just getting hot air coming out. The return line to the compressor also froze, which the guy said he'd never seen in 10 years of aircon work. Although he didn't find any leaks, I think I must have one, as now when I bridge two of the contacts in the pressure switch connector to make the compressor engage, I can't see any liquid flowing in the spyglass, and the return line isn't even getting cold.

Any ideas where the fault lies?

It's just a matter of finding the leak. It could be the compressor, the evaporator, or a one of the lines, or anything else in the system.

Good luck. <:-)

Or just the O-rings. A dye test might be the best answer.

Actually, mine was leaking out of the oring on the TX (I think) valve. It was a little square seal which had cracked, I replaced this with an oring and bob's my great uncle. :-)
