The below link is for a rebuilt compressor from the States.
Price is quite good for rebuilt compared to S/Hand local.
Would this be ok on our RHD Soarers?

Is your current compressor blown or leaky? It may be cheaper to get all the seals replaced on your current one if you can do a bit of work removing the compressor and refitting.

I bought one from them about a year ago, it certainly fits. It worked well and was nice and quiet, producing very good pressure which would suggest that it was rebuilt well. Took a few weeks to arrive and was well packed. It came pre-filled with the correct amount of oil, but needed the manifold plate from my old compressor (30 seconds - easy job, as long as you have a compressor to begin with). On a side note, as I have a UZZ32 I had to change the end plate over so that the mounting holes lined up. This requires almost complete disassembly of the compressor. The insides seemed very clean, no scouring of the bores, and appeared to have all new seals and reed plates. The receiver drier did not fit without having a few small holes drilled, but that was also easy. Have yet to fit the TX valve so can't comment. Overall I was very impressed though especially for the price.

I posted this recently in an old forum, but it might be more useful here.
After 20 years my aircon gas had almost all gone, with evidence of a leak. I got a number of quotes up to $800 to do an evacuation and refit and refill with R134a gas, plus anything up to $500 to replace a split hose. After reading about Hychill HR12 as a direct and compatible replacement for the original gas I found a company in Melbourne to do the work. They found o-rings that needed replacing, added the gas, and charged me $165 all up. There was no split hose. Seems to be holding up OK too - no evidence of a leak, but they put a dye in to trace it if there's one there. It might be a different story if your system is completely empty. Contact Paul at Mideast Radiators, Nunawading. While you wait service too. After 3 weeks it's still running perfectly.

Thanks for info fellas.
I'm still waiting for the compressor to turn up.
Sure it will though as others here have got them as well.
My system still works but it's been a year+ since I had a leak found and even then I could not get cool unless I was doing over 2000rpm.
Long hot summer on the way so I know I'll feel the satisfaction of spending the money every time I hit the button.

God bless the Americans and the size of their market.

I'm having a similar issue at the moment, got it done I believe at some dodgy guy in my local area of Brunswick, put's in HR12 like I requested, says there was a slow leak and couldn't pin point it but charged me $145 anyway and said it could take up to a year to leak all the way out, my aircon is cooler but still pretty average, nothing compared to my mates V8 Soarer aircon which is extremely cool. So maybe my compressor is also on the rocks and might need to pay a visit to this guy up at Nunawading.

There are many other things which can cause the A/C not to cool aswell :

1. TXV Valve Shut, Sticking or not Modulating correctly.

2. Blocked Condenser

3. Air/Moisture in System.

4. Restriction in Receiver/Drier

5. Too much oil in system

6. Heater Tap / Vent/Flap Problem.

It's not as simple as a Regas even though it helps, Get somebody who can study the readings on the guages and try pinpoint what is happening.

If there is a slow leak this certainly won't help with maintaining the proper refrigerant charge so if your not happy with how it cools now, and since it's leaking in a few months' you won't be happy.

Could you ask for the Pressure readings from the guy who did it? What was high and low pressure guages reading at, and what were ambient temperatures, what revs was the car being tested at?

Sometimes it's hard to decide when to stop.... but really a New Compressor (If needed), TXV Valve and Reciever/Drier can help.

The leak should be able to be detected if he has a decent leak detector.

Guage readings should tell if your compressor is not performing as good as it should be but in the end if you want to go all out just replace everything.

Compressor arrived after nearly two months waiting for it, but it was good, had it fitted, ice cold now.
They reckoned they had trouble with postal service or something.
Receiver dryer they supplied did not fit tho. apparently it was a bit bigger than my era Soarer needs. My bloke did me one for $25 and also said TX valve that came with it was heaps of work to get to and fit and said I shouldn't do it.
So got a chunky receiver/dryer to go if anybody wants one.
