Hey guys and girls.. any help here would be appreciated... the aircon in my 91 TT never worked ever since it was imported, so a few months ago i decided to get it checked out and have it fixed for summer... i took it to an air con guy and he said the compressor was stuffed, so $900 later he had replaced it with a second hand one, when i got the car back i tried it and the air was quite cold but nothing spectacular... anyway now that summer is here, its not blowing the slightest bit of cold air at all, and when i turn the a/c on the car revs extremely high and theres a wierd really loud whining noise...

First thing would be to take it back I think. You paid to have it working and $900 for a couple or months of sorta cool air is just not on. I don't have a pic of the part but when I had mine done due to a loss of gas I was told a lot of soarers lose their gas from poor hose crimping, where they join an alloy block mounted on the passengers side of the motor (V8). He recrimped it on the car and for 3 years now it has been working perfectly. I am not sure if that would explain the loss off cold air (if the TT's are similar in aircon setup to the 8's) but the revving and noise would be something else.

What Perry said, plus I think $900 for s/h compressor is well out of order. Sounds like a case of sexism to me. If you don't get any satisfaction we should put that guys name on the 'avoid' list.

Chelsea, analytical guessing here.
If the clutch was disfunctional, and not engaging properly then that could be the squealing. The engine normally idles a bit higher to counter the extra load of the compressor, so if the clutch doesn't engage properly and add the extra load, then that could account for the much higher revs you are getting.

Chelsie, where did you take your car the first time, so we know who to avoid.. Im also looking for a good aircon guy that is familiar with Soarers. Mine does cool, but it battles to keep up. Would be nice to know of some places in Perth where we can take our cars to get a good honest job done. I'm sick of being ripped off, especially when the job is not done right in the first place.
