Hi Andrew,

How do you know the Compressor is finished, is the noise a loud squeal like belt slipping?

When the car is off, can you spin the front part of the compressor (Clutch), not the Pulley itself but the part infront of it.... does it spin at all or is it Frozen in place?

You have 2 Options. New is about $600 like you Said.

Remanufactured can be as cheap as $150 upto $300. And there is no Definition of Remanufactured.

I have talked to all the Ebay sellers that sell Re-manufactured Compressors... and what is changed varies.

Some only Change the Seals.... and everything else is left the same, e.g if it's not broken or seized, they don't replace it. So a lot of the Remanufactured Compressors use old parts... there are some parts you can't replace though.

Other Places will Replace Seals and Bearings Too. and Cost Usually ends up being Higher.

Many people have had no problem with Remanufactured Units.... but also there have been people who have had Failures.... some Due to bad Compressors... but some due to Underlying problems.

The best would be a Brand New Unit in my Opinion just for piece of mind.

You also have to Ask yourself why the Previous Compressor Failed.... because most of the time compressors fail because of :

- Blocked TXV Valve
- Sticking Open TXV Valve
- Lack of Oil
- Heat (from Excessive High Pressure)
- Lack of Refrigerant (Leaks)

So any of the Above problems need to be Ruled out. If you just whack a new compressor in and Regas it, chances are it will fail again soon.

i got a denso unit from the U.S off the denso website, cost was under $500 from memory including postage and only took about 1-2 weeks to arrive. They don't have a listing for a 1jz but the 2jz units are identical except you just have to change the top plate (where the gas fittings are, only 4 bolts) with your old compressor as they just come with a blanking plate there.

I also have a second hand one for sale but im not sure of its condition, its out of a soarer im wreaking and forgot to test it while it was running before i sold a few engine bits, so now the engine doesn't run so cant test...there is still gas in the system so i can only presume it was working ok....I'm in QLD also
