Hey guys, kinda want my aircon to work cause its Darwin and really hot. Each fan level works fine, heater works fine, I can still turn ac on, but cant hear the compressor coming on, the fan infront of the condensor works too. Will the compressor stop if there is no gas?

It will not turn on if there is no Gas or a low amount of gas. Other reasons it may not turn on can be faulty pressure switch, short or open circuit in clutch coil.
Spin the front of the compressor to see that it's not siezed internally, then get a regas + leak test and go from there.

Thanks Boris, ill go get a regass. Mate still has some r12 and theres no plates saying that its been converted. Further to add is that the little lights above the ac buttons aren't flashing or.anything so i dont think the ac has any faults. Is there a way i can check the gas level myself?
It's used as one aspect of Diagnosing the operation, example you can see if there is bubbles in the refrigerant flowing past which MAY indicate a low charge or insufficient condensing.
When cars switched over to R134a which used PAG oil the reason given that the sight glass is not used any more is it could be hard to properly see whats going on due to PAG oil clouding.

Hi Boris, I tried using the aircon in my uzz31 the other day and noticed it now blows hot air, cant hear the compressor engage and done aircon diag test which came up as 2 codes when I counted the flashes... 21 and 23. Do you think it may be low on gas or has leaked? was working great and nice and cold when I last used the aircon last summer and haven't tried it since then until the other day in which it didn't cool the cabin at all. Suggestions?
