Hi guys. I was using my cig lighter to charge a laptop, and after it finished, I plugged in another charger (for GPS this time) and it wouldn't work. Had a look at the laptop charger attachment, and it was very hot. Now I have the problem of the cig lighter not working and the air con unit not working either!!

I have checked every fuse under the bonnet and in the drivers kick panel. I pulled the unit out to have a look for any burnt wires etc, and found nothing. Plugged it all back together and still nothing work! Pushing the buttons on the unit, or even the auto button, does nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be??

I've got the same problem as you at the moment and would love to hear a solution, but mine was while running a dvd player screen running of power from in the wiring in that area.

i'm not sure about the aircon not working, but I think there is an inline fuse right on the bottom of the cigarette lighter... There is a center contact and an outer contact joined by this "fuse"... Worth checking

I just put a blob of solder over it and it worked.

Having said that, it has stopped working again, so i suggest using a bit of wire :-)

(PS, i ran a separate wire from the battery to the cig lighter socket so i could use it without the keys in the car, there is no other connection)

hey fellas.
my air con don work either. some nut (not mentioning any names) decided to plug thermo fans into the ac positive relay in the fuse box and killed it. now a fuse somewhere is blown or something and nothing works. i can override the relay and manually turn both the compressor and climate control. but there is no power getting to the relay. i've checked all fuses in the fuse box. is there more ac fuses in the drivers kick panel? or are there any anywhere else?? help me please summers on its way

hi guys i just had the same problem but worst! the bit under the speedo that tells me errors/gear has gone to!

my mate just fixed it and said your air con unit has shorted out and needs replacing! aparently its a common fault on the soarers!

if you want the same auto elec to fix it i would recommend him anyday for any car! he's fixed my 2002 porsche c2, 1965 mustang, 2005 audi a4

i wouldnt let any other auto elec touch my cars as he's one of the best and doesnt charge you through the roof

Warrandyte Auto Elec, if you have problems finding him call maximum automotive in warrandyte! its in the same building/ old petrol station

Since when? What exactly shorted out?
