Hi guys. I was using my cig lighter to charge a laptop, and after it finished, I plugged in another charger (for GPS this time) and it wouldn't work. Had a look at the laptop charger attachment, and it was very hot. Now I have the problem of the cig lighter not working and the air con unit not working either!!
I have checked every fuse under the bonnet and in the drivers kick panel. I pulled the unit out to have a look for any burnt wires etc, and found nothing. Plugged it all back together and still nothing work! Pushing the buttons on the unit, or even the auto button, does nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be??

I've got the same problem as you at the moment and would love to hear a solution, but mine was while running a dvd player screen running of power from in the wiring in that area.

i'm not sure about the aircon not working, but I think there is an inline fuse right on the bottom of the cigarette lighter... There is a center contact and an outer contact joined by this "fuse"... Worth checking
I just put a blob of solder over it and it worked.
Having said that, it has stopped working again, so i suggest using a bit of wire
(PS, i ran a separate wire from the battery to the cig lighter socket so i could use it without the keys in the car, there is no other connection)

hey fellas. my air con don work either. some nut (not mentioning any names) decided to plug thermo fans into the ac positive relay in the fuse box and killed it. now a fuse somewhere is blown or something and nothing works. i can override the relay and manually turn both the compressor and climate control. but there is no power getting to the relay. i've checked all fuses in the fuse box. is there more ac fuses in the drivers kick panel? or are there any anywhere else?? help me please summers on its way

Although a bit late in the day but I have to report my wife's 1995 GT-L 4.0 climate control circuit board shorted and am currently looking for a replacement unit.

I have a problem with my ex UZZ31 with the whole AC/heater system not working, or even lighting up on the EMV screen, and the bottom section of the main dash not showing up either. Also, no cig lighter. All seemed to happen at once. Worked one day, not the next. Thought it maybe the start of the blinky dash, but cant see how that would affect the EMV.

start at the beginning mate, fuse box under the bonnet and the fuse box behind driver's kick panel...
failing that, if your not sure on doing it yourself. take it to a auto electrician that you know, not some random joint in a town your just passing through.... and get them to go over it.
fuses first, then worry about shorted wiring...
and never replace a fuse with any other size other then the one that blew, if it's blowing a fuse then there is a problem that needs fixing not dodging up..

Some plug-in chargers are ridiculously poor quality, they are made in such a way that the positive and negative wires inside the unit are not insulated and move around, eventually a plastic separator in there snaps (Or similar) shorting out and blowing a fuse.

Problem fixed. Cig lighter fuse. Was a piece of a plugin charger stuck in the lighter socket.
Just odd how much stuff runs off that one fuse. And before anyone asks, I dont know what fuse it was, as I got the info from the owner, not the sparky.
