Hey Guys,

Heres the situation.

Sometimes my aircon will work, no probs. pretty cold air, bumps up the revs a lot, but it works.

Then other times, it will turn on for 15 sec maybe, then disengages the compressor (the load kicks off and the revs drop back down) and the AC button will blink.

Whats up with this? Has anyone else had this problem?

Hey Nathan,
You may need to use the search function, but if memory serves, I think it means the system just needs a re-gas, which is no major.

Also, have a look in through the grill at the front right hand side of the radiator. If it looks to be a bit oily, then there is an O-ring that needs replacing. Simple job for an A/C shop to do when they regas it.

Nathan, I had this problem. It's caused by the compressor not running at the same speed as the engine - there's a sensor on the compressor which calculates the speeds and if the speeds are out of kilter by more than a small percentage it switches off the compressor to stop it from possibly seizing up. Reasons for the difference in speed can be compressor failure, insufficient oil in the refrigerant gas or compressor clutch failure (sometimes caused by oil contamination). In my case it was this last reason, so they changed the clutch.
