Hey guys,
I know that a hundred ppl have said you cant get the TT AC LCD replacements but i think thats crap because Nam's Electronics in Marrickville Sydney offers to replace LCD's for $350 which i think is ridiculous because i can get a second hand climate control unit complete for $150. But i just want the LCD replacement can anyone help PLEASE? i know you can get them because i also found a tutorial which gives instructions and shows the replacement screens but does not show where to order the parts from

Hey Nik, The screens used to be available Brand New from Toyota themselves. But are no longer available brand new in Right Hand Drive units. The only new screens that are available are for the Left Hand Drive Units, which are used in all US vehicles. They are totally different from each other as the icons and all controls and buttons are opposites(left from right).
The only way you can get a NEW toyota Screen is to buy a LHD unit from the US and get a new screen and fit it. But remember that the unit will then be Opposite to what yours is now.
You may think $350 is ridiculous, but considering 2 years ago, the complete unit was almost $1000 brand new, it aint half bad. Yes 2nd hand ones are avaialable for only $150 upwards, but will they last another 15 years like a new one will?
Like TIM said though, Mark Paddick is offering to replace screens for a price. Send him a message and see how you go pricewise.

If TT screens are the same as V8's then they are available new - RHD aftermarket product. I have one sitting here waiting to be installed.
Why dont you do it already LoL.
I have been waiting a while to see what result you get Peter. It seems like it has been sitting on your desk for the last few years.
Hey Nik are you from Marrickville?? That is where I live. If you get the screen and lights replaced for $350 that is a steal. Considering it should last another 15 years.
I might have to drop down to Nams to see what he can do for me. Is that the place across from Enmore Park??.

Yes but surely there has to be somewhere to get these screens from for cheaper than $190 USD
I mean they are bloody calculator basic LCDs for crying out loud. Plus when i spoke to Nam he said it was near $200 for labour so he must be getting new screens from somewhere for $150 max... but where?

Well Nik, in this day and age, you own a car that originally cost somewhere between $65,000 and $120,000 when brand new. I understand the car is now (however) many years old, but remember. You are complaining about paying $350 to $500 for a new screen fitted. Surely you read the instructions in the post Peter has posted. It takes a fair bit of time to do.
Also, it has to be done correctly to carry any sort of warranty. IT also is replacing a part which has lasted 15 years, and WILL last another 15 years.
Not being rude, but being new to a club and starting off with whinging about how much parts cost, and people are charging way too much probably wont get most people on your side from the start. When you can fix the problem for a cheap price, Let us know so we can bug the crap out of you to do it for us at a CHEAP price(being $50 for 4 hours work) or something.
There are guys on here that have been working on these cars for years and know parts and prices inside out.IF there WAS a cheaper way to fix it, dont you think all the people in the know would already know? Anyways, Good luck in your price hunting.
p.s. Mark did say he was going to be rescreening them for around the $450-$500 mark. You post it to him and he will repost it back all fixed. You say the guys in Marrickville will do it for $350, but have they done one before? If they crack the trim around it, i bet they wont get another one for you, or fix it. Then your stuck with New screen,Cracked trim, and saved yourself $150 which could have gotten you one with a guarantee from Mark(who everyone will recommend).
Here is a similar post, which will explain a fair bit. Its not JUST a screen from the US which costs $190 US (thats around aus$270 or so),(plus freight and taxes). But also New LCD lights and Resistors. Its all in this thread below, take a look and you may change your mind on the price. Better still, Jeff can get Brand New UNITS for only $650 or so.

Nik, I suggest you just get a calculator screen and make it work for your purpose.
Seeing as the screen is specifically designed to fit a specific car, they would not have been doing production runs into the millions to justify cheap prices. As it is, the real screen from your local Toyota dealer has a price of somewhere around $8-1200 from memory.
Until now, the choice has been to scour the wreckers for one that will probably go black very soon anyway - if you can find a good one, or pay the very high price to Toyota.
I am just thankful that someone has gone to the trouble to manufacture a replacement, but again, the production runs won't be big enough to justify a really low price. So what? At least it is available and it is a lot cheaper than the OEM part.

Hey Jeff. So are they producing brand new units??? Or is it a complete rebuild with new everything??
It might just be better getting a brand new one. It is 300 bux more expensive and will do the exact same job but at least you will know that it is more guarantee then a screen replacement.

Nik, the climate control lcd was custom made for the soarer, ie there aren't any just floating about in another appliance that you can tax to replace your's.
BTW, if ou think that a couple hundred to fix a dodgy climate module is a bit steep, I think you may have bought the wrong car. As Daniel stated, these cars sold for over $100K when new, and parts prices still reflect this, and that WILL NOT change. Just wait until you blow a turbo, diff, head gasket or anything else that the car won't run without, the parts will cost you and arm and a leg, then you'll have to flog a kidney in china to pay for the labour!

Jeff, you can repeat yourself as much as you like or you can try to understand the question - it's not that hard.
As you used to provide a handy service to Soarer owners by getting parts at better prices than through Toyota dealers, I was asking how your price on this compares to the Toyota dealers price list.
I can see that your price is $633, if you don't know what price Toyota dealers list them for then that's OK, but it was what I was trying to find out.
It actually helps your case if Toyota's price is higher.

Also on that place in Marrickville. I wouldnt really trust them in terms of looking after the product given. My dad had a stereo system installed (stacker in the boot and a receiver in the front). They shorted a few fuses which they took no accountability for. And they cracked the original surrounding of the cd player and just put it back in like nothing was wrong. And then when my dad said what the hell is this they said they didnt do it but did replace it................ with the ugliest looking one which didnt match the colour.
Although there was a sing a while ago saying under new management so i dont know what it would be like now.

i really didnt ask for the bad words guys i dont want any bad blood. I simply asked if anyone knew where Nam and other repairs got their screens from? im quite happy to install myself and would rather not have someone else install it. I own a wrecking yard myself but i dont do Lexus's which is a bummer hence im looking for the parts

Order it from Lextreme. Peter gave a hyperlink and i think from memory they even give a tutorial on how to do it.
It will cost around $200 US which i think includes delivery and taxes. And then it is just a matter of replacing it. But good luck to you because if you stuff it up you will be using a lot of ****************. You will need to buy another one. And then you would of wished you had sent it off to Mark Paddick.

I just ordered one from this guy. His ebay listings don't currently have the LCDs for RHD models but I messaged him through ebay and asked him, he's got them, and he invoiced me through Paypal. Should be here in around 2 weeks.
