Looks very much like the South Island to me, possibly central south.

It was indeed filmed in NZ, and I did a rego check on the Soarer in it, but alas it came back as "Plate no longer fitted to vehicle".

Which means either the car is toast, OR it has been re-registered.

There were, after all, six 1991 V8 Ltd Soarers sold NEW in NZ.

Here is a rough translation of the snippet of dialogue that accompanies the clip:

(In the manufacture of this car there was a very delicate aspect to take care of...)
the curve of the metal bonnet had to be continued round with the composite of the front bumper facia, to make it look like one uninterrupted flow. This meant an advance had to be made in the off-press engineering technique. We injected 15% of a ceramic fiber we call Tismo (?) into the acrylic resin compound to harden it and stop any subsequent spread in the moulded bumper.

Another area was the suspension. We asked ourselves what the ideal suspension could be. Thus we created the "active suspension" which was designed to increase driveability, comfort and road-holding. Our aim was to have the tyres maintain contact with every kind of undulation in the road surface, whilst keeping the body level, solid and unshaken at all times...

Were those 6 cars 'actives' Don?
Did they bring those 6 cars with them to do the commercial and if so were they sold off here so that they didn't have the cost of taking them back, in which case they wouldn't actually be 'new'?

Dave,
When I contacted Toyota NZ yonks ago, all they said was that there were 6 NEW Ltd's sold in NZ, but they didn't know whether THEY were Actives or not, BUT they thought that the one(s) that were shown in the clips above WERE actives (x2) that were shipped over for the filming of the advertisment, but they didn't know whether they went back to Japan, or were sold off in NZ.

Or quite possibly, as was common, one of them MAY have been given to the Toyota NZ MD to drive around in

I didn't take it any further than that, as it was "Old news" as far as Toyota NZ were concerned, and they wern't overly interested in the whole Soarer "Thing" anyway.

Don't mean to dig up this old fossil, but I was just checking the plate number for this car on Car Jam.

Clearly reads PS3421.....

Yet it comes up as a HONDA CIVIC 1984 (in Blue)

http://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=PS3421

Wonder what was going on there???

Looks like an NZ plate... back when they were black.

Maybe the plates were 'borrowed' and the car was on trader plates, would it really be worth registering the car for 1 day's filming if it was going to be shipped back to jp

Hah, came back to this all these years later to try and watch the video clip - Sony have blocked it due to copyright. Assholes.
