Cheers, The Mercs have big power steering boxes, so needed crown exhaust manifolds to clear, done by lew. As the 1uz are 90 degree they take up a fair amount of room, more than an LS1. Otherwise there is acres of room in the engine bay so working on the engine is pretty easy. The wiring loom was completed by sideshow performance wiring, which made firing up the engine as simple as connecting about five wires.

If it had a steering rack on it i recon a set of Neils extractors would have gone in there real easy. The crown manifold had to be modified on the drivers side only That have a massive steering box in there...

That is quite cool, keen to hear how it drives. Would standard Soarer extractors fit? I assume not, but quite a few of those around so thought I'd suggest it.
Could also change the steering at some point, although now its in it'd be damn hard.
Post some pics of the entire car if you get a chance

Stock heads? I tried the soarer celcior and crown ones the crown ones were the easiest to modify the other two would not fit in a pink fit. I just about started making a complete set of extractors to suit the 1UZ in the merc but money needed was way to high for what we were going to do to the motor as an end result

I think the main thing is to realise the crown headers got the car running, and driving. And it has largely been faultless, except for a initial ecu problem. Perhaps its worth looking into something to at least "free up" the manifolds. I did have an idea, to split the crown one in two, then basically leave the back 4 cylinders running as is, and bypass the front 4 cylinders through separate pipes, It seems there is enough room. Lew, Sean felt the exhaust needed larger headers, as everything was fine on diagnostics etc.

Great idea though. I'm researching into doing the same thing as a project when i sell my soarer. 1uz into old merc(maybe charged later!). Just wondering if i can pick your brain a bit... Are you registering the car, and how does it work with QLD transport? I'm assuming the speedo is mechanical, how did you interface that to the electronic pickup in the celsior auto box? Does it matter which donor car you choose for the engine gearbox - soarer, celsior, crown?
