| Hilarious! In NZ recently I was amused to find a small 4wd model known as the Suzuki MU (complete with small badges expanding MU as "Mysterious Utility" ). Also funny/strange was the Toyota Windom (where did they get that from?), the Toyota Marino (A Sprinter variant - NZ only? ). and the Corolla Vintage Edition (a pre-aged car?) |

| I heard that Pajero was slang for "Wanker" in Mexico - no idea if its true, but it would certainly explain a lot. Another great Mitsi name is Legnum - perhaps what happens if you drive for too far/too long in it? |

| Just about - Pajero is Portuguese for wanker, but Mexico does get a look in as the Chevvy Nova couldn't be sold there under that name - "No Va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish. Another beauty is the Terracan (Hyundai 4wd) - apart from being a stupid sounding name anyway, it sounds like the word for "Cockroach" in Russian. Thanks for reminding us of the Legnum - chuckled every time I saw one of them! Maybe Mitsubishi meant "Regnum" (Latin for 'ruling') but the usual L/R confusion crept in? |

Urban myth, as I think Manny has pointed out previously. See http://www.snopes.com/business/misxlate/nova.asp |

| I do believe though that someone (Mitsubishi?) named a small car the Lettuce. Also, the Pajero is known as the Montero in selected markets; that translation problem is true, it seems. Citroen currently has a car in France named the Jumpy. Edit: I believe also that the late 1960s "Toyopet" was originally presented to U.S. dealers as the "Toyolet" but that one was stopped before any made it into the market under that badge. |

| As Matthew has said: The Mitsubishi Pajero IS marketed in the US as Montero, because Pajero (pronounced: Pa-hero) is indeed a VERY derogatory term within the Hispanic/Mexican community. Also, strangely (or not) it's marketed in the UK (and other areas) as Mitsubishi "Shogun", which in the Japanese domestic market is what their large truck range is called Also, as John has stated, there are are a HEAP of Isuzu MU's in NZ. They're MEGA popular, and are available as (commonly a 2.8 - 3.0 dsl) or a 3.something petrol V6.

| talking about a car ahead of its time in Australia the datsun/nissan 260c. I had a 73 model with leather seats which were fully adjustable, auto search radio, internal boot release, adjustable steering wheel and a motor L26 that would give anything a run for its money. Oh and yes it was made of steel like the old vanguards not tinplate like the cars around at that time. |
