| A bit of information for those having trouble keeping a nice shine on your cars. Over the years I have tried a whole swag of products on my cars and recently had a chance to put a bit of effort into my Celsior. 1st step, Give it a good wash and then chamois down to dry. 2nd step, Maguires paint cleaner. Applied by hand using a Maguires soft foam pad and removed with open weave cheesecloth polishing cloth or soft terry towel. 3rd step, Maguires clear coat prep and swirl remover. Applied and removed the same as above. Make sure the car is cool when you do this and expect to use some arm muscles. The product leaves a slightly greasy residue which takes a lot of effort to remove. 4th step, Maguires gold class polish. A great product which fills or removes most of those fine spidery marks left on the surface. Apply with Maguires soft foam applicator pad and remove with terry towel of microfibre cloth. Then finally, a coating of Zymol Titanium wax. The result, paint to die for.

| Anyone interested in the Zymol products, have a look at this. http://www.zdoau.com/products/productlist.php?sid=3&cid=9 It's quite an informative site for those of us who are so inclined. Not all of the dealers carry all of the stocks. I use Dick Richey at Oven Baked to supply it as he has supported the members here for years and is a whiz on Soarer repairs and paint matching. As Australia's ONLY factory authorized Lambo repairer, he has to keep the range of products. Check out the Royale product at the end of the page. $16000 AUD for the two tubs, but refilled for life by Zymol. Dick Richey can be contacted on 03 9870 0520 and will post the items to you as required. You will need paint cleaner (Yummy, smells like chocolate), Zymol applicator pads and definitely, three micro fibre cloths to remove the glaze properly. |

| Every time I spend half a day cleaning & polishing the car, I end up stuck behind some oil spewing turbo diesel in the rain, then park at work to have the car shat on by birds, showered with salt spray and covered with gunk from the nearby motorway. By the end of the 2nd day its looking just as bad as it did before I started. |

| That's why you wax it after polishing. With a decent coat of wax, bird crap/tree sap/tar spots etc... just won't stick to the surface. I generally spend a whole day/weekend doing mine every few months. Once it's waxed, it only needs a rinse with water and it looks like you've just waxed it again. |

| Nice work Rob, the Celsior came up trumps! Big improvement over how it looked the other day (and even then it looked good!). I have had success with the Maguires Gold class polish you used (I have some kicking around somewhere, will have to dig it up) and we use Maguires Quik Detailer on the speakers in our showroom who's finish is actually automotive paint! What street is Oven Baked Enamel Services on? I will pop down and grab some Zymol when I get a chance. |

| I used that new Meguiars NXT recently. It is very easy to apply and polish off and leaves a great shine and a very slick feeling. |

| I've had much success with Meguiars Tech Wax and the use of Clay Bar treatments.
On a car that looks like it needs a little TLC, the first thing I do is wash and dry the vehicle to ensure all the dirt is gone. A panel by panel job of spraying Wax and Grease remover to get rid of any left over waxes, polishes, 'glide coats' and of course, SILICONE (bloody silicone) is essential. After wiping off as much of the Wax and Grease remover as possible, the car get a quick wash and dry. Time to treat the paint. I use Meguiars Quik Clay detailer kit, although the clay is available in 7oz jars, but costs around 100bux.
The clay pics up all the little bits of crud that get embedded into the surface of the clear coat. A lubricant (Meguiars Quik Detail) is applied to the surface of panel, then the clay is rubbed back and forth over that area. Youll notice lots of little black bits of dirt appear on the clay. This is what washing and polishing miss. Once the whole car is clayed, the lubricant buffs off easy with a microfibre cloth. You can than assess the paint and decide wether it requires a full cutting procedure or a mild swirl remove. Meguiars 2.0, some ScratchX or AutoGlym Paint rejuvenator or whatever you choose to use can than be applied. The ScratchX is pretty good on getting rid of deeper scratches in the clear coat. I use 2.0 Swirl remover on mine. Apply as per instructions or with your buffer if you've got experience in wet buffing. My favourite sealant is the Meguiars Tech Wax. Its about as tough as they come, I've only had to use every six months throughout the year in Darwin, and that with twice a week washing. It goes on with a supplied applicator pad, and buffs off with Microfibre. It sure does deepen the color and enrich the clear coat, and after when used with the clay bar, the suraface of the paint is like glass, and so so slippery. Smoothest youll ever feel. Like Rob says, its a lot of work but well worth the effort.

| I use a Meguires paint cleaner followed by the Meguires NXT and am happy with the result. although it does need a run over with a clay bar I never could get the hang of this. A tip for mags is caustic acid, thats the stuff they use for drain cleaner, diluted with water. spray it on the rim, give it a scrub and then WASH IT OFF as it is an acid, and if left on it will start to disolve the finish on the rim. This is similar to what Meguires use in their rim cleaner product but instead of $15 it's $3 and for a container that will last you a lifetime. |

| Well, its been 3 weeks now and i have been washing my work statesman every day with a harsh truck wash, a dirty ol sponge, and a high pressure blaster to rinse it. i only zymoled the roof, bootlid and bonnet and you would think it was done yesterday i also did my 2 soarers, and they look fantastic. you gotta get onto this stuff !! i will post up some pics over the weekend and also, if you apply it like they say, you will use more than you should. so use an applicator to apply it |

| *Easy clean Wheels Tip* Once all the brake dust and grime is off the rims, keep them this way by giving em a coat of synthetic wax like Tech Wax. Next time they get dirty, just hose em off, the brake dust will wash off very easily. |

| You can, but if you're starting over, then do it after wax reomval. You use it also when theres a slpattering of bat that didnt come out when you washed. It saves you using your nails or other to remove the turds, and gets rid of the bits that are 'in' the clear coat. Ifyou use it on a waxed area, you'll notice a yellow coating on the clay *Clay bar tip* Break the bar into four pieces. It sucks when you drop the bar on the ground and get bits of dirt in it! Dropping the bar may also attract unwanted attention from escaped inmates. |

| I had some time off after Christmas so I thought I would give my car a Christmas present by giving her the mother of all cleans and a wax to boot. After seeing the results Rob acheived with the Celsior I thought I would give Zymol a go. So I washed it with Zymol Auto Wash and chamoised it dry (about 1 hour total including detailing the rims) then used their HD-cleanse product to get rid of all the crap that the washing misses (tar, road grime, etc) and the results after that alone were startling. This stage took a bit of elbow grease but it was well worth it. If you look closely at the image below you will see the left side of the bonnet is noticeably duller than the right (easiest to notice down the bottom of the picture). This stage took about 2 hours. Last step was the wax itself. I used Zymol Titanium which is meant to be very tough, good for daily drivers (same as what Rob had used on the Celsior). Some shots of the finished product below. After close to five hours I am very happy with the results, however next time I will use their Lehm-clay clay bar and two laps of HD-Cleanse then two layers of wax (that should keep me out of trouble for a whole day) The quality of the paint job on these cars is fantastic, the depth and colour is just spectacular, once you have done the above!!! | For anyone interested check out the video below, its a story about Paul Dalton who is widely regarded as one of the best car detailers out there. Having said that, I dont think I could ever justify paying 5000 POUNDS for a car detail!!! http://www.fusionsystems.com.au/soarer/videos/fifth_gear_zymol_report_NEW.avi |

| Okay, so is the order: wash, paint cleaner/wax remover, clay bar, swirl remover, polish THEN wax? Or is it wax THEN polish? To be honest, i've never waxed my car after polish, is that why it doesn't seem to last very long? |

| Yeah Adam, polishing without waxing is never a good idea. Polishing removes all of the oxydisation from the surface of your paint (and taking a little paint aswell) leaving it nice and shiney. It also leaves it completely unprotected (aside from the protective properties of the clear-coat). Applying good quality wax to the paint gives it a sacrificial layer of protection that can be removed when its looking poor and reapplied without needing to remove any more of your clear-coat. Just think of it as a condom for your paint, always wear protection! |

| Tech Wax, meguiars is good stuff, especially for hot climates. I used it on the benz above and my soarer, it lasts fer ages. The paste is the best IMO. (comes in a liquid too) CT-16 Truckwash or whatever its called is just harsh enough to strip all the old wax and grime off and leave bare clearcoat underneath. A good primer to a claybar then wax without resorting to a full cut. |

Personally, I wont touch anything else but P21s wax for my car. It's not stupidly expensive, but it's not the cheapest either. I used to use the P21s on my 180sx, it left a mirror like finish on the paintwork, and lasted for ages. I have used it twice on the Soarer, and it's been awesome, but my paintwork is pretty pathetic, so I have moved away fom wasting the stuff until I sand back and respray the car. I am willing to do a coating on a couple of cars in Sydney to show it's potential. B. |
