Notes only.

Recommended interval - 60,000k or more if you hammer.

For the V8, only use Toyota Type IV fluid. Don't use anything else or you will get transmission vibration and lose the smooth gear changes.

For the TT some people prefer Dexron 3.

12 Litres is required for a decent flush.

Buy the fluid yourself, then chose to either pay to have a power flush done, or tackle it yourself.

Recommended to also remove the gearbox pan and clean the filter, don't get a gasket as apparently they always end up leaking, use "Triple Bond" instead as a sealant.

Version 1)
Things you will need.
One eager helper
Jack the car up and get either ramps or stands.
12 litres of Type IV fluid ($80)
One Red transmission sealant ($36)
- Triple Bond - price?
1x litre cooking measurement thingy.
1x 2 to 4 litre container for catching bad oil.
1x funnel and attachment (either funnel extension or tubing about 20 to 50 cm)
Screwdrivers to get pan off (flat head and a hammer)
Petrol to clean filter.
Sandpaper to clean edges of pan once off.
About 2 and a half hours

Drain a litre, replace a litre, drive around. Repeat.

Version 2)
Remove both hose fittings from radiator, noting which goes where.
Outlet to a large bucket or container. 15-20 litre.
Inlet to funnel or pump.
Start engine, pour fluid into funnel as old stuff comes out (very fast). Change to each gear position for 2-3 seconds.
Should go clean after about 10 litres.
Best to finish with the fluid a bit low. Drive around block, check level with engine hot and running, car level and in park. Top up a little bit, drive around block and check again.

Removing pan. Undo lots of small screws, usually requires jemmying off with a large flat screwdriver. Pan will probably bend a bit, just hammer back into shape.

Clean filter with petrol, kero or anything else, then flush it with ATF to avoid contamination.

Refit using 3-Bond.
