It is now completed, only thing left to do is fit it up to the Soarer.
And make a rear crossmember and driveshaft.

Complete kit price is not available just yet, I have a few more items to include.

Alloy Components are made from 6061-T6 Alloy.

Flywheel has Amour Plate face.

Starting with a Single Organic Friction Plate.

Race Spec will be made on Request of your application.

OK, I am going to play the dummy here, because there may be a few people out there that are not as informed as others...

Mate, what the hell is a T56, what is so special about that box and why would you do this over a W58 or Getrag type conversion?

What sort of ratio's will I end up with, you know, what will this do for my V8 from a practical point of view?

Am I going to have to have to chop holes in my transmission tunnel to get this thing in??

In fairness, I must point out that I drive a V8 Soarer Manual track car, and I can assure you that there is nothing like a correctly sorted V8 Soarer. With still only 128RWKW I have watched the car go from a so-so auto to a vehicle that has taken some very nice scalps at the track. It comes down to driveability, it just improves out of sight!

And no, I do not have to shift every 3 seconds as a daily driver and no, it does not have a Mack Truck clutch, there is only one way to describe it... FUN!

T56 is a Borg Warner then Tremec 6 speed manual gearbox. In various configurations it lives behind loads of GM, Ford and Dodge high power products, including F bodies and Corvettes since the early-mid 90s, Mustangs since about 2000 I believe, Holdens since the late 90s, Vipers from the beginning (though this is a stronger version) and Aston Martins. It has now been replaced by the TR6060 for the last couple years. All have 2 overdrive gears. There are various ratios, but lots of them are best suited to 4+:1 rear ends. AFAIK this is to not have such high (weak - more stress on bearings and shafts) ratios in the box. They are a plentiful, strong, and (more so in the US) cheap secondhand transmission.

I believe the BW units were first made in the US. All the Tremecs are made in Mexico?

the t56 is a tremec 6 speed we would mainly get these from any commodore with a ls1 in it. you can pick them up for about $1200 and are fairly new compared to a r154 or w58 plus readily available

is this clutch setup to run the OEM GM style concentric slave cylinder neil?

Yes Jamie,
That was my main endeavor to retain that slave.
This leads to less outer area material that can / will interfere with Extractors etc.

I will have images of it installed in my Soarer buy Monday :-)

This setup once installed WILL also go into a V8 JZA80 Supra.

November Danny, after SEMA show in Las Vegas.
Then I will have multiple clutch setup options for the V8.
I could assemble a great street setup right now if you were not going to go extreme racing / drags.

There is going to be price variants due to the clutch options that I am going to make available.

Sam,
I am making a flywheel kit to suit the 2JZ / 1JZ.
The clutch setup is the holdup at the moment, as it is a new design to the market.
I think you will find the T56 is a tad stronger than the R154.
When are you planning this swap ?

Clutch setup will be to your choice.
Ie:
Single Organic
Single Composite
Twin Organic
Twin Composite
Flywheel will be modulated, so you can swap and change when you want to.
Eg:
Twin Organic for the street, then swapout to Twin Composite for the track, as the removal of the T56 once installed is rather easy.

There are other options / choices I will have available for ALL setups.

No need asking for a price yet, as I do not know what the cost are so far, sorry.

I plan to install a T56 behind a Supercharged 2JZ-GE in a 180SX ( 300SX ) for Drift :-)

Sam,
No, you supply your own transmission.

You will have to acquire these components.

Transmission
Clutch Pedal Assembly
Brake Pedal ( New is cheap )
TT Tailshaft(Modifications to tailshaft using supplied componants )

I will supply,
Adaptor
Flywheel ( Applicable to your requirements )
Clutch Kit ( Applicable to your requirements )
Tailshaft parts * Yolk / Uni / Shaft End *
Braided lines
Short Shifter and its associated parts.
Console Shifter Surround.
Trans Mount

Trans Crossmember if you dont want to make your own.

As you can see, there are so many variants, I can not state a price as of now.

Once the clutch supplier tells me what the variants are, I will be able to state more precise.

I am awaiting an answer on Monday, as the clutch supplier is in Las Vegas doing the SEMA show.
They would not allow me to state the clutch setup until this happened.
Prices they will not disclose until they return unfortunatly. ( Unless you were at SEMA they may tell you )
I can now state the setup will be a Modulated Twin 9" or Single 9" setup which can be swapped around without the need for a new flywheel.
Composite of friction disc can be of your choice.
Single or Twin will be of your initial choice and can allow as stated to be swapped around.
So purchaser will have to think about what there application will be for.

1200hp standard i highly doubt that any box put behind a standard car from factory will handle 1200hp. unless its a car thats making 1200hp from factory. witch the cars these come from dont make that or anywhere nere that from factory

nice adaptor plate but i wouldnt use alloy adaptor id rather use mild steal might be heavier but at least its not brittle and over time will strip the threads i manufacture 1uz-t56 adaptor plates been doing them a while now just thought id share some input because alloy may be good for raceing to keep the weight factor down but longterm not good for street purposes

Sam,
Read on some Commodore and Ford forums for what there opinions are of the T56.
Also the GTO / Camaro / Mustang / Corvette forums.
Not the Viper forums, as there T56 is upgraded.

Andy,
If you have a product, don't you think it is * polite * to announce it in another thread ?
Instead of claiming yours is better !
Remember, you WERE going to use mine ?

Please explain why the threads have not stripped from the R154 / V160 / V161 that the factory uses ?

The alloy is * Aircraft * Grade and CNC'd for perfect fit everytime.
Welding plate steel together can warp.

I * HAVE * your product at my workshop, you don't see * ME * going onto forums stating it is rubbish compared to mine ! Do you ?
Your product looks good, Damien is going to use it with me installing it, I have no dramas with that.
I * told * Damo to get * your * flywheel as well, as mine will be out from the measurements that you use.

So PLEASE, refrain from making your statements against others products.

On a side note, your * punctuation * is not the greatest.

Hi Neil, currently my supra is making 0HP as the engine died a couple weeks ago.
Next year I will be pulling it out and rebuilding with forged internals, bigger injectors, etc. Target power is 350 - 400rwkw. While it's out I will be doing a manual conversion.
I know the V160 will have no issues with that sort of power level, but if the T56 is strong enough I would prefer it as it's a much cheaper option.

I picked one up on eBay the other week for $1,200 in Dubbo.

Just keep looking, they always come up.

One sold the other day I was watching for $1,325

New ones can be had from $3,000 - $3,500 ( ask around some trans suppliers )

No need to rush your purchase, I will always have the rest available.

Yeah, look in the local paper as well, saves on shipping to WA.
It would prolly cost $200 to move a trans from East to West.

You will need a transmission controller certainly.

The existing ECU will work with the trans disconnected and an aftermarket or matching stock ecu could be fitted to control the new trans.

Not sure if the later model engine ecu would run the trans without controlling the motor.

Haven't seen any trans controllers for 6 speeds, most of them have been 4 speed setups, but there is probably one out there.

Sweet, as I need to put a stop to that 180kp/h speed cut as I am going to be doing track work, got a meet on the 2nd of May so will see how things go as to how desperately I need more speed.

Quick question as I am a little confused given the info above as to which box will work, would this work?
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Holden/Gear-boxes/auction-285127924.h tm or this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Ford/Gear-boxes/auction-285127923.htm

If not why and what would be required to get them to work if possible?

Generally a switch is put on the clutch that indicates 'neutral'. This means that you can start the car by putting the clutch in, but that when the clutch is up the ECU sees 'drive' and cruise control, ABS and TRAC will work as normal.

David,
I will have some form of idea after I have paid for all the costs that I have incurred. :-)
So hopefully one day next week.

If you are keen, start looking for a T56 trans and a clutch pedal assembly. ( As I will not be supplying these in the kit )

Neil designed the flywheel specifically for this kit so it's custom made along with the rest of the components.

If I remember correctly, Barry Bourke in Berwick picked a peck of pickled....wait.

Barry Bourke Holden, in Berwick Vic, has new from factory VZ 6speed T56 gearboxes on sale for around
$2700.00

Neil: any idea if your kit will fit the aftermarket Tremec T56? I've been seeing the Tremec ads in a few car mags lately, and remembered this thread. Chunky looking box!

This is the T56 I've seen in a few mags lately. Tremec T56 Magnum... it's a beefy looking unit... there are a few detailed photos there too. Take a peek! I can't remember what these things are worth, but if it's less than $5-6k, brand new, fits your kit, and loaded with 100% 5-star awesome, I'm in! (When I have the cash, of course!)

By your cryptic reply I'll assume there's a way to get this happening. Don't worry mate, you were already the bloke I will be sourcing a few parts during the restoration/performance upgrade to my poor old '31!

Keep that "more awesome" T56 in mind! I'm always open to suggestions.
