I know at heart that all of you celsior boys want a straight through exhaust system with that pimpin' roar that only a non-muffled exhaust system can produce! but we do all also want a quiet classy car that we can happily drive on the freeway without getting a headache!
So my question is this; Is there an exhaust system available that you can add to your factory exhaust system, with a butterfly valve (controlled from the cabin) switching in between the two? ie on loud, off loud THANKS

All that I have done to my exhaust is removed the rear 4 mufflers and it is perfect, on idle it is reasonably silent, and under throttle she has a nice roar to it, on the highway, she is not too loud at all... Well worth thinking about it

I have done pretty much as Neil suggests, except I have also removed the balance pipe. The resonaters are small hot dogs and the mufflers are flow through. The sound is very nice and meaty, while still sounding ok as a business car. It does make a few of my clients ask to hear it though! Talking about clients though, I was with one last night whose son (a Toyota Apprentice Mechanic) drives a 1985 Cressida-----except he has put a motor from a Soarer Twin Turbo in it -intercooler and all. Nice power to weight on a 1250 kilo car. Apparently it goes reasonably freakin' nuts.

Haha I thought that was more or less what you were thinking of. Mine isn't in quite yet, The stereo is going in right now.
Basically mine will be going in the mid pipe before the Cat. So when open I have a 3" straight pipe off my turbo's. Otherwise the nice quiet stock exhaust.

A couple of years ago I heard of a muffler that had a remote control flap built in. Open the flap, the gasses just flow straight through the centre pipe. Close the flap and the gasses have to go through the muffler chambers. This would save all the additional piping, extra mufflers etc.
i have also seen in some magazines, advertising a muffler that changes from loud to soft, my mate bought a fast fours mag, and the ad was in it... might be a little cheaper.

did neils post get removed from this thread or am i missing something?
i have some awesome mufflers for my car, im just unsure on how to set up the rest of the system. i want 2.25" pipes as i want it to be quiet at idle, but open up and roar when i put my foot down.

You might want to check out http://www.dmhperformance.com/ecutout.htm from what I've heard they offer a better product and cheaper, along with a 4 year warranty. I'm going to purchase a dual setup and place each one just after the cats, while I'm at it anyone see a problem in where I plan to place it?

Hey Guys, I got some of these installed a couple of weeks ago. The video on youtube is pretty quality and sounds nothing like it does in person but it gives you a good idea of the difference it makes. I have a completely stock exhaust with 2 y-pipes just after the cats, that's what you can see in the video. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvBlUwjxv04

Very cool,
All this needs is a supercharger and have the cutouts hooked up the kickdown switch so when your floor is flat its all noise, would make for one hell of a sleeper.
People that are unaware would just think its a carmy or alike.

Yeah I bought these just before our dollar collapsed in value, I pretty much got them bang on dollar for dollar all up including shipping I got it for around AUD$420. Completely worth it as I have the best of both worlds ultra quiet when closed and nice and loud when open.
