thank you Rich for clearing that up. Oil wasn't down though. Only came on briefly, service only 4000km ago. Good to know though.

Comes up pretty good for only 10-15 minutes work!

Thanks Don :-)

I plan to keep it this way, strictly no driving during the week unless totally necessary , only in the weekends in order to keep mileage and running costs down alot, During a 5 day working week I could clock up about 120-180kms+ easily. Where as by using it during the weekend only, it will total less than 50kms and of course only 98 octane will be used...

None of those lesser quality fuels, fortunately the previous owner was very keen to only use top octane gas in the 20,000kms he did in NZ. While in Japan it was only run on top premium Japanese gas he stated... :-) Wonderful knowing this man owned the car its entire life!

Main thing for me is to just look after and enjoy a car like this, keep a fair amount of cash available in case any thing goes wrong. I'm currently in the process of insuring it and will slowly service all the common bits and pieces that need doing. So far I've done all the spark plugs :-)

What I found with the Soarer was that using it during the week was totally pointless..... in the long run annoyed me as it needed washing more often and kms went straight up!

So by using this celsior less often when not needed it will stay nicer and I will feel happier knowing so... So glad I made the change!

Definitely wont be selling anytime soon, there aren't any other good cars around to buy! Plus that white celsior I looked at last year in march, the guy that bought it, which is one of my brothers mates is quite helpful with some of this experiences and tips with his, had a chat over the weekend. :-)

You can't import them any more, so nice examples may retain some value (we hope)

You guys a crazy and or stupid......... a car is there to be driven and enjoyed... i don't see how you can call yourself a celsior enthusiast if you've only done 2500 km in 8 months...Last year i drove 30,000km and fully enjoyed every minute of it! love your car, look after it but for godsake drive it, otherwise whats the point of having it? Hmmm one thing that Im interested to know is, how come a celsior accelerates just as quick as my UZZ30 did when it was stock? Its really really fantastic how similar performance is I cant really tell which one is slower, maybe the celsior ever so slightly once you get over 100, but theres almost nothing between them IMO and at the same time the celsior is a much better sounding v8 with the BFI and just a sweet car to drive, Im much more satisfied now :-)

So anyway, how can this be if the celsior is 200kg more than a soarer v8? Something to do with the diff ratios?

Thank you Ryan for this mature assessment of my mental state.
If you asked perhaps why I only did so little travel in my celsior, I would have explained to you how I do 400000 km per year between 4 different cars.

Since I do not have to...I won't

Ps Since when one has to do 30000km+ to be called an enthusiast??

Mike, Torque is the same, so acceleration will feel much the same even if the Celsior is a little slower.

One of my mates has a big Chevy Custom 10 pickup with a 450 V8 - the thing really feels like it screams off the line even though its so huge, just because of the massive torque of the big block - but when you actually compare how quick its moving to other cars around you realise its not THAT quick (still pretty impressive though)

Only a timed run would tell you exactly how close it is.

Hmmm are Champion leads any good?

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Toyota/Electrics/auction-100585989.ht m?p=2

Just looking into replacing my 1UZ's electrical gear , meant to do it on my soarer but never got around to it... Will test my leads first with a multimeter but Id say some would have breaks.. :-)

I use Karlyn Industry leads from the States , all proper s/s fittings at the right angles , comes with an extra coil lead [ 3 of ] so it will do Soarer and Celsior 1uzfe's , have fitted them to 3 cars so far and they are awesome quality and 5 mm same as genuine , at least as good as genuine if not better AND I can get leads , rotors , caps plus a set of NGK platinum plugs for around Aus $340.00 including freight and exchange rate .
I actually have a set of brand new leads , caps and rotors sitting here if anybody needs some .

Hmm they sound like reasonable leads. :-)

So you would take the BREMI ignition gear over the genuine toyota part versions? Is it all just as good a quality, if not better?.. is that what you have spare?

Yes that is what I have spare , my man in the States sent me an extra kit , I have since sold the plugs so it's the leads , caps and rotors left .
These leads are specifically made for the 1uzfe by arguably one of the best manufactuer's of aftermarket leads , add in the fact that I can have the whole lot including plugs for less than a set of genuine leads and you can see where I'm coming from .
I get nearly all my stuff from the States , most times it's at least half price from the best deal I can get here in Aus or more and that's allowing for freight and exchange rate .
Just a side thing , when I asked Ralph about the quality of the leads caps and rotors he looked up the sales for that year [ we where about 3 mths in ] and they had so far sold a thousand units with no come backs !!!
I was blown away by the volume , that's the main reason the parts are so much cheaper over there , just the shear numbers they sell .
A lot of the parts I get are genuine Lexus/Toyota , lower ball joints are a classic , my new genuine lower ball joints cost me less than $100.00 each including freight and exchange rates , the cheapest I could get them here in Aus was $220.00 !!
So who's making a a bucket load out of their parts !!
After all , they all come from the same place in Japan , those guys in the States are still making a profit and I have to add the freight cost , Toyota/Lexus are making a killing !!
If the parts here in Aus where close in price I wouldn't bother with the import thing , but when the gap is so huge , they can get stuffed !!
Anyhow if you want some of the stuff just let me know .

I fitted a set of Champion leads to my 1UZ about 4 years ago - they were a good fit and worked well. From memory I paid $250 for them 4 years ago, so thats a good price too.

Yeah I would be pretty keen on the leads, caps and rotors you have left. I just did spark plugs so thats okay you don't have them. :-)

What would your total price be for these parts including shipping to Auckland, New Zealand in NZ Dollars? How would you go about payment etc.... Would be great if you could help out.

Only problem with me importing something such as car parts, Import taxes will be applied from what Ive been read, totaling at 12.5% GST and 10% Duty which is alot of wasted money in my opinion... Any one got ideas about this problem?

Yes, that would be good. Perhaps you could do that. So what figure would I be looking at for these leads, Rotors and caps? How would you go about me making payment etc?

Also you got a pic or two of the gear, I just want to see exactly what the stuff is like. Id appreciate that. :-)
