Well, Ive been against the look of those horrible yellow fog lamps for sometime but never really got around to removing it until now.

So today I took the headlights both out, removed the fog lamp bulb and socket with the yellow fog lamp glass, then smashed the glass and put it all back together.

Results for a no cost thing are fantastic, The Car looks modern and has lost that cheap dull look even when they are turned off, When on its a nice clear white light all round. I highly recommend doing it. :-)

Also while I had the lights out I replaced the park lamps with whiter bulbs which has also improved the look of the car when those lights are turned on, Gives it a more modern and Fresh look.

Most satisfying!

yeah i did this a while ago. but i think im one of the few minority who prefers the yellow.

i get constantly flashed cos people think i have my h/b's on when its only the fog lights.

the reason i got a celsior was to stick out, and with the yellow lights on- at night - you will still stand out cos very very few cars have the stock yellow fog lights.

Sorry, but it's also an offence in NSW to drive with those lights on just for looks. Lucky you guys live in other place and not NSW. But I agree, it would look a lot fresher

yeah i'm with sam and ken... the only problem is the foggie bulbs have a much shorter life span and as i have a thing for driving with my lights on at all times (yes, even in the day time) they only last about a year. I've been pulled over twice for having them on but was let off on a warning both times...it went something like this:

Officer: good evening sir, can i ask if you have been drinking tonight?
Me: No sir
Officer: please say your name and address into the breathaliser.
Me: Ryan Posselt *********** rd kingsford
Officer: can i see your license please.
Officer: you know son i haven't seen any fog tonight.
Me: Whoa??
Officer: seems like a clear night to me son.
Me:
Officer: nice night... glad there is no FOG.
Me: Uh?
Officer: listen buddie do you have more money and points than everybody else or what?
Me: um no?!
Officer: cause your going to wish you did unless you turn your fog lights off right now.
Me: oooohh riiiight.

See kids you got nothing to worry about NSW policemen a very friendly and patient and persistant even to slow people like me

anyways the whole point is i think having the foggies on looks wicked and gives the car a unique look over the local ls400 only problem is that some people can think your driving a crown, which is clearly no where near as cool :-)

Driving with fog lights on is not illegal in NZ fortunately. In my opinion it makes driving safer using them all the time. I do get flashed by idiots coming the other way who think I have high beams on from time to time - so I just flash them back.

I agree though, yellow lights are grungy looking.

Yes it is (Unless it's actually foggy of course), it's just the only time they enforce it is during a boyracer blitz

Matt, since your soarer is a 1996 - I take it the bottom set of lights are the fog light type? Not just those pointless turning lights?

Ummm I don't understand why people smash the yellow bulb ??
If you just prise the crimped band off at the bottom you can remove the bulbs without doing the destruction thing !!
Point is you can then always put them back .
Unfortunatly for me my HID's are so white the good blue/white bulbs in the fogs just look yellow in comparison !!
I think I will go further up the light scale so that they are a contrast , more purple I think .

Hah, I suppose its the easy way. Couldn't stand going back to that yellow.

Mmm Ive found that with the stock filament type bulbs, very yellow compared to HID kits.

Have you got any pictures of your HIDs Rich? Id be keen to see what they are like on a celsior.

Are you sure? Nothing in the road code about it...
http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/roadcode/about-driving/night-driving.html

Mind you, wouldn't surprise me if they don't mention it in there on purpose so they can get more money from fines.

Ah, wait, I found a brief metion of it...

http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/roadcode/about-driving/driving-in-bad-weather.html

"Fog lights should be switched off as driving conditions improve."

Yup. Funny enough my wife's AE101 has the turning lights, but its a late '94 model.

Its pretty silly though...

"Fog lamps should only be used when visibility is severely reduced, eg by snow or fog. It is against the law to use fog lamps in clear conditions (day or night) as they can dazzle other road users."

Dazzle? Hell if my fog lamps dazzle other road users, then they are going to get a sun burn from my dipped beams, and be incinerated by my high beam!

Interesting to note after market HID kits are totally illegal here.

Your fog lights might not, but there are a lot out there that do.

And only bulb kits are illegal, replacement housings aren't (as long as they meet standards etc)

interesting. I have factory fitted foglights on the camry. They can be turned on without turning on thje driving lights. I wonder if it is illegal to be driving with them on.

It does turn the park lights on though.

Yeah I agree, but it gives it a very old 80s look which dulls it down a touch. Kinda the way I see it.

Still it can look okay... I do see where your coming from.
