Hi Guys, I've always been told to turn the switch in the boot to off when the car is jacked up or hoisted or when you get a flat and I have blindly followed this advice but have never known why or what happens if you don't?

I'm getting something fixed on my 90 celsior this week and need to drop it off early would it be a problem to just flip the switch too off and leave it off all day until I need to pick it up again?

with it on when you jack the car up it starts leaking air out. i dont know why but i forgot to turn it off and jacked it up one time and the wheels started coming down!

turning it off does exactly that, just turns off the brains to the system so nothing works. the bags will just stay put.

Think about it , the car has sensors that measure where the suspension travel is at , if you jack the car up and they hang down that will make the suspension ECU think that the car has gone up , soooo it tries to put it down by letting air out !!
This can result in permanent damage , it won't hurt anything to turn it off and drive it like that , the normal light on your dash will flash to let you know the switch is off .

Awesome thanks for the replies I finally know why now. I think it will be better to just switch it off rather than leave a note for the auto elec

As long as the ignition is turned off, there will never be a problem jacking the car without switching that boot mounted switch off. Simple no power no worky!

cheers Chuck

I may disagree with you here Charles.
With the ignition turned off, and if any of the bags are leaking, the system will still pump.
Well it happened with the Soarer Limited I had a few years back.
So I guess if you jack the car up, the system will automatically sense a change in heights and fire up the pump.
I could be wrong though :-)

The suspension system says on for a couple of minutes after you turn the key off.
If you jack the car up during this time, the bags will begin to deflate.
