Trying to replace the infamous lower ball joints and I've hit a snag. I've borrowed a pic from the excellent
www.lexls.com to illustrate - the ball joint/tie bar that he is removing in this pic needs to have the nut taken off the bit where he has the puller attached. He's already taken the nut off but on my car the nut just rotates with the ball joint. This is a similar principle to the anti-roll bar links but those have allen key sockets to hold the rotating part still...the ball joint in the pic doesn't.

Firstly, you did remove the locking pin (no offence) and if so then try turning the steering full lock to put pressure on the tapper section and then turn the nut.

Good luck, Kevin

Last time that happened to me I used a pair of vicegrips to grab the thread above the nut to stop it from turning, then was able to loosen the nut.

Sure, this will stuff up the thread and render the tierod near unusable, but chances are that if it turns then its stuff.

Try Kevs method, then try a soaking of CRC/WD40, and finally hitting things with a hammer.

Use the vicegrips as the last resort.
