How many of you have replaced the dessicant [ silica gel ] in your air suspension filter/dryer ?? This is quite important , one of the reasons the air sus lasts so long is the dry clean air it gets , the silica in the filter pack is now 16 plus years old . I have refreshed mine and it made a huge difference to the speed of height adjustment , also I have done two systems where the exhaust solenoid had seized from water getting into it as it's mounted on the bottom of the filter container . I bought a 15 Kg drum of silica as it worked out way more cost effective than just getting enough to do mine . So I have a fair bit left over for anybody who wants to do this maintenance .

RICH can you give a few pointers ?..what you did to get to it etc, as i think quite a few people would be interested in doing this? given the price of air bags...DR

Well for anybody in Queensland I would do the job for them , only takes about 1/2 an hour . The cannister is inside the right hand guard just in front of the wheel , just remove a few screws from the wheel splash guard and pull it out of the way and you will see it . With the car on a ramp or a stand remove the wheel and you will be able to lie on your back under the right front side of the car , look straight up and there it is , you will need to remove the plug from the solenoid on the bottom , undo the air line feed from the pump [ 14 mm openender , leave the hose on the cannister easier this way ] , remove the out line from the top of the cannister [ there is a little stainless spring type clip to stop the hose coming out ] and then pull the line out , make sure you keep it straight , you will probably need to use a pair of pliers as it's been in there for a long time and will be hard to get out , then undo the clamp holding the cannister in place and drop it out . The top of the cannister unscrews and under that is a spring , then a stainless plate with holes in it and then a felt type pad , under that is the silica , tip all the silica into a container [ just in case you need to save it ] and on the bottom is the same felt pad and stainless plate . Also remove the exhaust valve solenoid on the bottom of the cannister then clean it all out and make sure it's dead dry !! You can probably hold the nut on the cannister's top in a vice and turn the cannister itself , it seals on an O ring so should be able to be done . Replace the silica with the nice blue stuff Rich has sent you and then reverse the process , make sure to put some O ring lubricant on the cap O ring so that it goes down nicely , a little bit of vaseline will do if you don't have any O ring lubricant . I have Dave's to do shortly so will take some pic's and post it up . It sounds like a lot , but it's not rocket surgery . It also wouldn't hurt to spray a touch of WD40 or suchlike onto the business end of the solenoid , don't want that seizing up !!

Rich, maybe you could bag up in zip lock bags enuff stuff to do the job and post it off to blokes (like me) to make a few bucks for your trouble. I'd be keen to do Suzie's Celsior purely for the longevity of the car.

Yep this Saturday would be good , I'll send you a PM with my number . I could do that no trouble Rob , I have scales and a sealing machine at work so no trouble to double bag it . I'll weigh exactly how much goes in so that I can calculate how to cover costs from the 15 Kg I bought . It will will certainly be no more than $10.00 odd plus postage .

I'm organising a couple of spare canisters that I can do with new silica and then send with some instructions , much easier to just swap a cannister over especially with some pic's to go with it . Rob send me a full address and name and I'll get some on it's way . E-Mail me at kjt.oneil@bigpond.com

If I eat 380 packets of chinese lollies, i should have enough silica packet to fill up the canister, and a bonus lymphatic tumour! COOL

Did Ross's filter/dryer on Saturday , took about an hour cos we talked a bit , also we took some pic's , will add some today when I show how far to fill it . Totally successful , hard to tell if it made it any quicker to go up and down , a bit quicker , mind you his has just clocked over a genuine 100,000 K's so it's low miles and original , he still had quite a few pink beads so there was definitely moisture in there . For me it just brings piece of mind .
