| had my shifter out completely last night on a look and see mission . Haven't been able to get the later model handle with the O/D button on the side...it irritates me , my Cressida had it on the side , my V6 Camry had the O/D button on the side but not my Celsior !! So I now have the first of the gated shifters complete , it's not a direct bolt swap over but won't be too difficult , there's nothing on the gated unit that's not already on the original shifter , even the wiring won't be too difficult as even though the colours don't match with them side by side you know what goes where . Most important thing is the connection to the G/Box is the same . We will see how it goes tomorrow , will be at it til it's done . |

| I've got the pic tutorial on the gated shifter installation, but it's for doing it to a Soarer..........a LOT more faffing around than a Celsior/LS400. |

| Shifter is in !! Haven't finished the trim yet and I've done it a bit different to the guy on Club Lexus , I haven't chopped apart the gated unit , it sits a bit higher than the standard unit and I will play with the trim instead . The wiring was a bit tricky due to the extra switch stopping you going from neutral to reverse , but I now have it working correctly and I will do a diagram and take some pics . Being able to work the O/D by just pushing sidewards is great , it's less effort to go from Park to reverse but more effort to go from Drive to park when you stop and leave the car , like it a lot and it also makes it look a bit more modern . Don it's only the very first of the gated shifters that will work easily as as soon as it went to the 5 Spd box you have an extra position IE: D , D4 , D3 , D2 , L where as the one I have is D , D3 , D2 , L just like the original and as I fitted the thing as a whole didn't need to break it down . But thanks for the diagram anyway I have filed it way just in case !!. I don't suppose you can get you hands on Australian lexus parts prices can you ? |

| Don, Would it be possible for you to post or email a close-up pic. of the shifter mechanism for the `91 V8 Soarer, I think the pivot bushes are crook/missing in mine. |

| No worries Stuart. I replaced mine about 3 years ago........1 was super worn, and the other was a tad floppy. If I remember they were about $6(NZD) for the two of em. Not hugely hard to do, just fiddly.......took about an hour from go to woa

| The shifter bushes (Part # 90385-11003) are a $4.00 purchase for the pair, and a stocked item, must be common to other Toyota models. While I have it apart I will modify the shifter to take a more conventional gear knob, and lower it. The lock out function will be done by pushing down on the knob for park reverse and low. Overdrive will be via a switch in the TRC hole operating a latching relay.

Seemed like a good idea at the time. BTW, I finished the shifter mod.(except the relay for O/D function). I am very happy with how it worked out, much easier to operate.

| Hmmm, looks like good work! But I don't think I could get used to something like that, I prefer my factory spruce shifter over any other shifter, other than a TRD shifter for a W58!

Mike, That was the reason that I changed it, I kept pushing the O/D button instead of the lock-out button, driven too many miles in old American cars I guess. Plus I wanted to lower it. |

| Ah yes, I see it from your perspective. With me since I've became interested in the Soarers, I always liked the automatic shifter as it was different from 99% of other Japanese cars at the time which where like a fist sticking up out of the dash, nasty! I do love the gated shifters like the later model Celsior have though. Very euro looking.... |
