The front end of my Celsior bangs over bumps and I have been told the upper control arm ball joints are worn.
Has anyone replaced these?
What are these likely to cost?
Thanks

Hi Brett, I was advised on rego inspection that the upper ball joints were likely to need replacement in the next 50,000k's. Did a bit of hunting around. Toyota price was HUGE, as they are a sealed unit, and were only available with a complete upper arm assembly.
Removed both upper control arms, fairly straight forward job, 25 mins per side. I took the arms to Capital steering and suspension in Fyshwick. They installed a grease nipple in each ball joint, and injected some type of polymer into the back of the ball. Picked em up 3 hours later and refitted them. Absolutely perfect now, and at a measly $90.00 per joint, an absolute bargain.

hope this helps, cheers Chuck.

Excellent advise Chuck, it IS a proven method of dealing with sloppy ball joints in the short to medium term, although, speaking for myself, I'd rather go the "Factory" route, although the cost can be horrendous

Hi,

I need to replace the lower ball joint in my 1989 Celsior LS400 and I have been reading the messages on this post. I had advice that it would be cheaper to re-machine/repair rather than replace. Can anyone advise on the Toyota replacement part number or any other suggestions would be appreciated. I am new to the Celsior Chat forum. I am located in Newcastle, NSW. Thank-you.
