hey all,
i ran a manual diagnostic on my celsior, and noticed i have two error codes corresponding with a failure in the TPS (not a worry, as its easy to replace) but the second one is a short in the kickdown switch...
What i would like to know, does anyone know if perhaps the TPS could be causing the short in the kickdown switch, or where I would be best to start looking to fix the short?

Kickdown switch is underneath the accelerator pedal.
I'd guess that the switch has been depressed and failed while depressed, and that the ecu thinks its depressed (ie, your foot is flat to the floor) but the TPS isn't giving the same reading (ie TPS is reading as per normal), hence both codes are coming up.
I'd disconnect the kick down switch, reset the codes, and then see if either come back.
The kick down switch is near useless anyway, its not needed.

Does anyone know how the kickdown switch works?
Does it complete a circurt or does it just ground a wire to earth.
Im hoping its just a grounding switch, As I want to install a electronic butterfly into my exhaust and was looking into the kickdown switch as a mean to activate (open) the butterfly for full noise.

Oh excelant cheers for that Andrew, So that means I can use it to activate other things at full throttle (hmmmmm NOS ), maybe oneday, for now im going to install an electric butterfly into my exhaust.
On topic:
I agree with Andrew here about Replacing the TPS. I don't know but just an idea, maybe other toyota engines might have the same TPS saving you searching for a 1UZ being wreaked. A quick part number (if you can find the information) comparason would give you an answer.
Good luck with sorting it out mate.

Google Vari-flow technologies, here in Wollongong for exhaust butterfly- AKA active exhaust like formula 1, Craig (Mob. 0414416748 )has been developing them for years, beginning with Vacuum actuation, they now utilise a stepper motor to control the butterfly position. Gives some back pressure for normal? driving and opens Hells gate for the fast and furious.
