Could someone tell me where to find the ECU in a '90 Celsior? I'm told it's under the glovebox. Also does anyone know of a thread or help file on replacing the capacitors in the ECU?

Starting problems. When it is cold I turn it over a few times and it fails to start. I then switch off ignition and wait 2 or 3 seconds and it then starts but labours and misses for 3 or 4 seconds and then fires up ok.

Sounds like the Idle Control valve, Both my Celsior, My fathers, and my Mates V8 soarer all had this problem until I pulled the ICA apart and replaced it with new bearings.

Thanks for that David. I'll give this a try before I tackle the ECU. I have 2 Celsiors that have the same starting problem so it will be interesting to see the results.

No worries mate, I personaly have owned 4 1UZ toyota v8's, all of them develop this issue overtime.
I can almost assure you that the Idle control valve is your issue.
On my Current Celsior when dead cold it studders on start up for a few seconds but it doesnt stall. This doesnt bother me as I just consider it more time for the oil pressure to build up. well thats my theory, others would say it reving up on start up throws oil off the crank and on the bottom of the bores to help lubrication.

Well I took the idle control valve out of one of the Celsiors yesterday and it was in great condition. The bearings spun freely and the thread was spotless. The shaft was slightly dirty so cleaned it and put a drop of light oil on it.
Went out this morning and started it, no difference. Maybe it might get better as the ECU learns, we'll see.

No I haven't tried swapping them because the problem is identical on both cars. I will try the 2nd car soon but have hurt my hand so job will have to wait.

By the way David, were you able to remove the ICV without taking all the spark plug wire covers, air intake etc off. I found I couldn't get the ICV past the spark plug wire holder in front of it even though I loosened it and took off the coil. So had to remove all the covers and air intake gear. Bit of a pain.
