Is there a diagnostics system for the cruise control?

Occasionally when I engage cruise, it fails to engage, then the cruise light flashes 3 times, and I can't use it again until I turn off and restart the car.

For the first year I had it, it only did it a couple of times. Now it does it maybe 30% of the time.

Its getting quite annoying.
