Best thing I ever did stereo wise was just to fit a Pioneer MP3 player , I now have a Pioneer DVD player in the car...who needs a stacker !! Replacing the head unit improved the sound out of sight , the genuine unit was great 19 years ago but not any more .

id like to retain the stock headunit if possible - and im actually pretty impressed with the 19 year old speakers and amp from what i heard sound wise from the only radio station i can pick up lol.
i was hoping someone knew of a couple of wires i could tap into for "line in" or something like that.
i guess if worse comes to worse i could by an fm transmitter mp3 player or something.

Chris nothing wrong with the speaker system , just that the head unit lets them down !! The Pioneer MP3 player I fitted didn't look out of place either , personally I just couldn't be bothered with poor quality that FM modulators give you. I sold my stacker to a guy that went through about 6 of them , he finally gave up and just fitted a decent head unit , remember they all are 19 years old now .

So if you change the headunit, would that also be powering the speakers? or using the stock amp? (f my understanding is right there is a separate amp in the boot somewhere)

Chris, I had the same problem as you when I first bought my car. I ended up installing an MP3 player with FM radio. Had to replace the factory amp with 1x800W mono amp powering the factory subwoofer and 1x600W 4-channel amp powering the other speakers.
