I have determined for every 5km of real road length, my celsior is reporting i have traveled 5.3km (300meters extra) I determined this from those highway sign test things
which leads me to the question of what the stock tire size should be. I have stock 15" celsior rims. The tires on them are 215/60 R15's. Is that correct?

Chris the rims on the first gen where 15 x 61/2" fitted with a 205/65/15 so there is a 14.5 mm difference in sidewall height . Best thing you could do for the car is some bigger rims .

If you are worried about the ride then go for 17's , I run 18" rims with 275/35 tires on the rear with 235/40 on the front , does make it a bit more harsh but not much , 17" rims would be a good compromise , doing that will improve the ride and handling of the Cel out of sight , the car really NEEDS bigger wider rims to do it justice , not to mention [ although I am !! ] the looks side of it . I run later model 4 piston alloy calipers on mine but I wouldn't have bothered if it had standard tires on it...they are just not up to it .

Hi Chris, I have recently purchased a 89-90 Celsior/LS400. I have fitted a set of later model LS-400 rims and tyres to mine (225x60x16), when I got it came with 235x40x18. I thought the speedo was out when I got it, but with the new fitment, the speedo appears to be correct. I also used this to help me figure out the size required, just click this link http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Hope this helps

The difference in rollout between 205/65 and 215-60 on 15 inch rims is only 1.2%, 4mm not 14mm. If Chris' speedo read 6% fast then it was nearly 5% out before the tyre change.
225/60-16 is not even within the 3% rule but if the speedo was 5% out in the first place then they do in fact correct the reading.

Thanks heaps guys! that's some seriously good info there! yep it sounds like 225/60-16 would in fact correct my out of wack speedo! and that website is a bloody useful link to bookmark cheers!
Better keep my eyes peeled for some later model 16" lexus rims then. (hopefully cheap)

Sorry Fran, I missed your question until now. Uniform Australian regulations on wheel/tyre changes say rollout must remain within 3% of that calculated from factory placard wheels and tyres. That means calculated radius must be within 3% (same thing).
