Hi :-)

My Celsior is running on 4cylinders, Nutted it down to the coil (the one thats to the left of the Idle control valve on top of the engine, infront of the intake manifold)

Does anyone know where I can find one??

Is it just a generic Toyota Part or 1UZ only.

I hit him up but was a lil bit pricey for an old ignition coil, plus my celsior has parked in my work ute and need to get it out asap. Ryan wont be up for 2 weeks. I was hoping that it was a generic toyota part and I could grab one from a corolla or something. Ignition coils are all the same basicly, just depends on the conections.

You can buy new generic coils from places like Bursons for around 90 to 100 dollars, I think new genuine are about 200 or so.

Not saying yours is no good Ryan but you never know how much life it has left in it.

Check Repco, Supercheap etc as coil packs for the V8 are available, possibly as low as $75.00

Personally I wouldn't bother saving a handful of dollars to buy a part that won't have a decent lifetime left in it.

Thanks for the tips guys

My mate brang his 1uz soarer around this afternoon and I tried his coil pack, still running on 4 cylinders, even to confirm it, put my coil pack in his car and works fine.

I run out of sunlight before I could do more seaching. I know the other coil pack is fine aswell I put the timing light on its lead that runs to the right hand dizzy (looking at the engine). I will have to put a timing light on the one I thought was crook, I didnt test it at the time because I knew the other one was working and only being 2 I just assumed.

So what else is left?

I was thinking that maybe the coil on the top of the engine isnt getting the signal to fire (connection seems clean and firm so im doubtful on that)

Other option is the lead that runs from the coil to the dizzy is dead.

Or the lefthand dizzy is playing up (the problem did happen after running the engine to redline in 1st gear), is possile the rotor button has somehow snagged and just spinning on its shaft?

Now this leads me to another problem, How to inspect the distribtors.

Last time I changed my plugs I wanted to check them out but I couldnt work out how to remove the lower black plastic casing (timing belt cover)

Does it just unbolt, from memory I remember seeing plasic plug looking things.

Is there a trick to the removal?

If anyone has any advice or suggestion to my above answers it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Dave

Swap the plugs over on your ignitors.
If the 'dead' one swap to the other side, then the ignitor is the problem.
If not, then its either a coil lead, the dizzy, or the rotor (since you've ruled out the coil)

I got a test light, I will be able to determain where the spark is lost. But my main issue is working out how to remove the timing cover from the dizzy, top half is easy as pie, but does it just unbolt or is there a trick. If someone can give me the heads up on if it just unbolts, then I will persist with it as maybe im not trying hard enough, but as a general rule if someone doesnt come off easy there is normally a trick to it, Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction,

Rich, Not able to bring the celsior down to kingston im affraid as she barly runs to move it out of the drive way, anything more then idle and it just pops and backfires. My father drives a low loader (trailer used to moving large earth moving equipment) So normally transporting a car is no issue but there is no way the celsior would make it up the ramps on the trailer running on only 4pots.

Im certain its the left hand dizzy (looking at the car) I just dont know how to remove the casing to inspect it.

I thought it would be in the instructions for replacing the timing belt but they dont even explain it or show a picture of how its done, so its gotta be simple. Im just buggered if I can work it out, and I dont want to force and break anything,

If anyone knows. Please give me some advice if shes a just a simple bolt off job. or there is a trick. if there is a trick, is it possible to explain or take a photo to show me.

Thanks a lot guys.

Driving the car up a ramp on 4cyls should not be an issue.
I've had to limp mine home a couple of km's a few times on 4cyls. Sure its slow and has no power, but it has enough to get the car up to 60kph.
Unplug the 4 respective injectors if you want to stop the backfiring.

As far as removing the cover is concerned, yes, its just bolts (no clips). Bit of a headache to get the cam sensor wire free, but do able.
I just can't remember if anything else needs to come off (like the tensioner pulley). I can't remember the other inwhich its done.
