I have known about the 50 cent coin test for ever but have never actually done it . I was picking my car up from the panel beaters yesterday and I actually tried it...and it worked !!! You balance a 50 cent coin on its edge on the top of the engine in line with the grooves while the car is idling , you then rev it up to 5000 RPM and it should stay there without falling over...and it did !!! The panel beater and the painter where astounded !! Me too !! Absolutely awesome !!

The first time I tried to rev it I sat in the car and was duly informed the coin fell over when I sat down in the seat , the second time I stayed out of the car and just put my foot in on the throttle and the coin stayed upright...so a gentle rev to 5000 RPM has less effect than sitting down into the seat !! Simply fantastic , it's that kind of engineering that has me owning one these master-pieces !!

This was also used as salesman gimmick back in the day the uz was introduced around the world. It was used to show off how much better balanced the v8 toyota's were than the crummy lumpy inefficient powered holdens and fords were.
Pretty neat test really. I mean when we're talking about power, you can get all kinds of power from all kinds of engines, but the benefit of many cylinders is the even power during the rotation of the crank which increases ride comfort. This is a great demonstration of that.
