I actually have 3 C/F climate control units with good clear LCD's sitting on the shelf and seeing as I had my non C/F unit out to do a test on a unit with a new LCD fitted I thought I'd try a C/F rear air con control unit in place as the plugs on the back are the same . And...it worked just fine !! Everything worked exactly as it should and there was even lights on the rear air con part as well . So those with a blacked out normal unit can use a C/F rear air con climate unit in it's place . I'm actually going to convert one over to blue back lights and blue LED's for all the buttons and tell tale lights like my standard unit and fit it just to have something different . Go figure !!

Hi Rich, is it very hard to swap to blue lights? How much would you charge to do mine as well. Do you also know how to swap the LCD's (from one unit to another) . I had my internals refurbished a few years ago with new capacitors etc but did not have a good screen. Now I have a good screen but am not sure about the internals. So I would like to swap and put blue lights in at the same time. Regards Robert

Hey Rob I did the Blue conversion in theory its easy but it is very time consuming.... you have to heat the soldering on the individual legs of the green LEDs and the pull those out with some needle nose pliers. Its a good couple of days work... I actually have one pre done perfect screen for CF Package - could probably use a new face (black plastic) as there was wood grain stuck to it and it has left some marks behind (might buff out too) I just need to make one adjustment to it. PM me if your interested. I paid $200 when I bought it off rich so I'm only asking $200 to get my money back.
It does look awfully sexy! done using 1000MCD blue LEDs - Brendan Keedle has seen it in action

Indeed i have, Looks the goods too (and worked fine in my locally delivered ls). Recommend if Blue is your thing. Do make sure you also do the radio if you dont have an aftermarket Head unit, or it will look a bit out of place.

You also have to make sure you do the back lights for the LCD display as well as the symbols in the switch and the little long lights above and below the switches!!

I have a Nakamichi system in the car (approx $3000 upgrade at the time) and have changed the sub and speakers to Boston acoustic but maintained the original specs. Does anybody have any experience in changing the NAK bulbs to blue?

I had to change the little rectangular ones three times before I got them right , they were way to bright the first time and even the second time I had to run with the parks on so they were dimmer !! Got to have it right though . Rob I could show you how to do it if you like .

Blue LED lights are easy swap. Take 1 of each size bulb. Go to Auto Barn and match them up. You have to remove the holders they come with and put them in the Air-Con screen ones. Very easy, took me 10mins to do it. All 12V lights so No Soldering, No dodgey wiring. Easy done.

The lights that shine through the switches themselves are soldered onto the board . Also I get my LED's from China , the Auto Barn ones are way too expensive when you have to do 27 of them !!
