Love my LS, but it has come with the 'common problem' of the speedo (and sometimes the tacho) not working.
The guy I bought the car from had the cluster sent to Melbourne to have this problem fixed, but clearly it is not.
The odometer still operates when the speedo is not working, so it is not common to that. (sender?)
I have been told by Lexus that it may be the sender though. So if I spend $400.00 I can have a new one, but with no guarantee it will fix the problem.
I have changed the whole instrument cluster with a borrowed one and the problem is the same.
What do you guys think it might be?

It is a common problem, and it affects mine. Does it 'stick' when cold, and then unstick after a few seconds, or even a few miuntes depending on the outside temp??

If so, i have done research and tracked the problem to the actual lubricant they use in the cluster - in hot weather it melts the lubricant and it works it's way onto the needle drive. Over time it turns into a sticky muck, and causes the needle to 'stick' until the cluster heats the lubricant up enough to let it unstick. i have a bookmark on my laptop at home with a 'how to' fix it. i'll post it for you tonight. from memory, it is quite fiddly though. its on my 'to do' list!
