Hi Guys , can anyone help with a problem I am have with my LS400 , it started to play up a few weeks back and didn't want to shift into Drive so stuck in 3rd , I did a few oil changes and it worked for weeks until yesterday when it went back it no "D" I had a spare trans here and took the all the shift valves out and fitted them to the LS400 but still no good . Now I am at a loss as to what it could be . Can you get codes from the LS400 if so have .

Hi Chris , Where is the over drive switch in the LS400 , I know where it is in the Soarers .
I just changed the auto and convertor and worked fine until it everything gets to running temp and then back to no 'D" and over drive . this is starting to get the better of me now .It's now dropping back and forth from drive to 3rd but just will not hold drive , if i leave it in 3rd its runs ok less two gears .

I feel for you Mario. Is your problem only evident when the box is cold?
My Celsior auto trans has a brief holiday for anything up to a minute (only when cold) when i shift it into drive. Post warm up, there are no problems whatsoever with the auto.
I've been trying to work out the problem for over 18 months now. Col Voss auto transmissions in Brookvale (sydney) were useless when I took it to them as well. They suggested a new box No other info or solution was offered.
Are there any temperature sensors related to the transmission?

Mario, Ive just sent you an email (3.4mb) that has most of the auto transmission service manual in it. There may be something in there that can help you troubleshoot. MT

Car looks to be running right again , After changing all the shift solenoids and still no good ,than took the auto and convertor out and fitted my spare box , thought it worked until it got to temp and back to no drive and over drive , than thought to look at the Engine ECU and there it was , one leaking Capacitor and has leaked over the board , even with one connection missing I cleaned it with contact cleaner and put it back in and it worked , took it to a mate to change the capacitor and fitted it back into the car today ,did about 50K's and no more problems

I have some pictures of it so can send them to you , look like the cap had nothing to do with the Auto not shifting but because of the leaking from it over the board it caused a short and the Auto to play up when hot .
