Recently the heater has been producing only cold air until I set it to 30 deg. When I progressively lower the setting it reverts to cold at 29. This problem has been accompanied by a ticking / clacking noise coming through the centre air vents. I've just changed the heater switch / valve on the firewall (after I saw gunk around the connections), but that merely left me $150 poorer. Does anyone have any ideas about the cause?

I found the solution - take it to the auto electrician and it will fix itself. On the way down, the noise was a lot quieter and the heater seemed to be working in the 20 degree range - it certainly wasn't throwing out cold air. Electrician checks it all over and it's working perfectly. Wife drives it home and confirms that even the noise has gone.
