My front right air strut is shaged, so I've been looking at replacing all of the stuts with springs. I found this on Yahoo Japan. Works out to $1050 plus what ever it costs to get it here. Opinions?

you can buy a new one from neil, for like 850 or close there to, then its about 200 install.
or ring castle hill toyota in nsw they deal with imports. i just had a warranty claim for same airbag, cost me nothing but in total cost about 1050 installed. would be about same for neils.

$1050 is good. But I'm worried about replacing all 4 some time soon. Even if I replace 2 thats $2100, the coilovers will be about $1700 delivered, then I will have no suspension issues any time soon. I'm fairly set on all new coilovers. Decisions, decisions

In this thread:

Jeff says he can pick them up for $400 for one or $700 for two.

What side air strut are you for I may be able to help you out. I also know someone with a set of coilovers that he just removed from his celsior which are only two months old. He got them new cos he popped a air bag and had to get these until he found a replacement air strut.

Anyways let me know!

I'm getting the coilovers. I can see the air suspension being nothing but trouble. The height is different by an inch on the left to right sides(could not get them even after much adjusting), I think the compressor is on the way out, and I dont know how much life is left in the other airbags. thanks anyway

Yes, a clapped out seventeen year old air suspension is nothing but trouble. A new air suspension works brilliantly, while coils are boring as bat I would have thought you could pick up a 2nd hand LS400 of the same vintage for about the same price, springs already on it, and be welcomed at your nearest Lexus/Toyota dealer, so I wonder why you went the Celsior route just for the joy of paying more to downgrade it.

Actually, no need to answer that one. It is probably more a question of personally preferred approach than a topic for discussion.

Air suspension is great if its working perfectly, but mine is not. Its hardly a downgrade, I'm quite sure it will outhandle any standard air suspension setup, the trade off being the soft ride. The new suspension is also height adjustable, just takes a little longer to move it up and down. I think its the best option

That was not really my point Steve. No matter.
