Problem started with the speedo needle jumping all over the place while driving, then after a few day it died and the "o/d off" light is flashing at me. From the research I've done on various forums, it would appear to be one of the speed sensors on the transmission. Has anybody had and successfully fixed this problem? Is there a tutorial that I could be pointed to? Is it a difficult fix? I am confident in my basic mechanical skills in that I am 99% sure that I will be able to do the cruise control delimit, but if the speedo fix is too complex then a mechanic can have that one. Any advise would be much appreciated. Byron.

Thanks Neil, Sounds easy enough. You wouldn't by any chance have a part number for the speed sensor handy? Byron.

All i can suggest is too try the importers to see if they are wreaking any and if you could purchase the sensor, although bit of a gamble with a second one.

Which one? I've undone the one on the left of the two in the pic but the sensor doesn't want to come out. Do I need to undo the three screws on the plastic housing? Or is there something else holding the sensor in place?

It was that 12mm bolt. WD40 and some side-to-side swiveling loosened it.

Now, having replaced the driven gear how do I get the damn sensor back on? It is stopping about quarter of an inch short of seating fully and feels as though it is backing against something plastic, which I assume to be the gear that the spindle mates with. Grrrr.

Hmmm...tried refitting the sensor without the spindle and the problem was still the same so there goes that theory. Are these sensors usually difficult to refit?

Put the gear in the sensor first, make sure its properly seated, and then put both of them in the gbox at the same time.

I've just realised that this is in the Celsior section. That pic that I posted is for a JZZ30 trans. Sorry! Incidentally, replacing that spindle hasn't fixed the problem.
