Does anyone know if the Celsior Sub-Woofers are the same as, and identical to, as in very similar to the point of being the actual type that also go in the Soarers? huh...anyone?

Ken, just be aware that if you replace your sub woofer with an off the shelf one from an audio shop that you will need to get yourself an 'fee-air' sub. As the boot is not quite sealed enough for using a boxed sub unless you do some modifications or seal in the boot. A boxed sub will work but they are not designed to be used as a free-air sub, well that's the way i understand it, someone correct me if i'm wrong

See my post in audio section for using boxed type subs in the rear shelf. You'll probably need to replace the amp too if going aftermarket. In Soarers at lest the amps have a few faults. The actual speaker is usually OK.
Don Bagnall Moderator New Zealand I have LESS Soarers than Hayden :-(

Ken, Celsiors are an 8" sub, and Soarers are 10".
If you just want a replacement, Brett Cashmore on here bought a NEW genuine Celsior one from a Toyota dealer for $194 + GST.......which is reasonable for OE.
The CORRECT part number for yours is: 86160-50010 (11/1989 - 8/1992) (same as Brett's) and is a 2 ohm Pioneer.
BUT possibly the UCF11 one would do, and it is Nakamichi brand. Toyota part number: 86160-50020 (8/1992 - 10/1994) (price unknown)

Thanks for the prompt info guys. The reason I asked is that I ordered a new one from Toyota and while I was waiting for it to come from Japan, I found a guy here who repaired the old one beautifully. So GUESS WHAT?? I now have one brand new woofer too many Guess I'll start a thread in parts for sale! Cheers

Thanks for the sub Ken :-) I've installed it, it was a breeze. Old one was missing so the new one just slipped in. Unfortunately I can not get any output from it. I have plugged in another speaker to see if it was the sub but still got nothing out. So sub is ok. could it be that the amp output for the sub is kaput?

If the old one was missing, was it in fact ever there? If not, then Celsiors may be like Soarers with different head units when no factory sub is fitted. There's no indication from the front of the unit but there's a socket for the sub amp missing. The reason for the difference is that without the sub the whole lower bass portion of the output is fed to the front speakes and with the sub fitted there is a sub-bass filter removing these frequencies from the front main outputs and sending them to the sub instead. This is done at pre-amp level in the head unit. Hence different head units. If this is the case then the sub amp probably won't be fitted either. To remedy the situation in such a case you need to fit the correct head unit and sub amp. All wiring is there in the car in the case of the Soarer so Celsiors are probably similar. A shortcut can be used. Fit a speaker level to pre-amp level converter and phase splitter from the outputs of the front channels of the non-sub head unit system (actually from the amp in the boot) and feed to the factory sub amp input. Or leave the phase splitter out and use an aftermarket amp. This assumes that the Celsior sub amp is like the Soarer one. It may not be so the bit about phase-splitting may not apply.

Thanks Mark.
I will follow your advice and check the amp first. Being UCF11 I would have thought that they all had 8" sub as standard, hmmmmm must remove the stacker in the boot to find the amp/ Does anyone know if stock celsior amp runs all 7 speakers or are there 2 amps?

The sub was optionable on all Soarers (except pov pack with pov stereo but then you could option the better stereo and sub anyway) so I would've though Celsiors would be similar.
