| Hi Guys. What a fantastic forum! I've owned my Soarer for a few months now and have spent numerous hours on this forum learning about everything Soarer. Thanks to everyone who posts all this information that money just can't buy! I bought my 91 JZZ30 late last year. I'd always seen soarers around just viewed them as some sort of unobtainable super car. It wasn't until I actually looked into it that I was shocked at how cheap they were. I picked mine up for 10K as is and can't believe what a beautiful car it is, so advanced for its age and price. I can't stop driving it! So far this forum has helped me with sourcing and changing a broken engine mount I knew it had when I bought it, cleaning those yellowing headlights, resetting the ecu, cleaning the aircon filter, working out my paint code, getting the right oil, and understanding my japanese dash warnings. I have read hundreds of threads on possible mods and it's all quite exciting. The car was running perfectly, except for a random oil level warning that ive put down to a faulty sensor, and I ran out of fuel when my computer told me I still had 8L and i thought that would be enough for the 2km to the servo. All until the other night when my front pulley separated from my harmonic balancer and fell off. Luckily I was only backing out of the shed at the time. I managed to source a good second hand one and fitted it after getting the old one off using the rope down the spark plug hole as advised by Tang Freeman in an old thread - worked a trick! I've also purchased a new serpentine belt. I noticed my tensioner pulley had a worn bearing and decided to change it. However it is the plastic type where the bearing is part of the pulley and can't be separated. I've been to numerous parts stores without success and eventually went to toyota genuine where I was told I can only get them second hand or buy the whole tensioner unit for $398. I thought a second hand one would defeat the purpose and am not paying that much for the whole unit. I was wondering if anyone knew where to source just the pulley? I've searched threads for hours but can't find anything telling me where to get them. The ebay kits don't seem to include the tensioner pulley, only all others. Can anyone be of assistance? Otherwise I may have to fabricate one. Also I have the Piezo electronic modulated suspension. Is it activated by the ECT PWR switch as ive read on previous threads? It doesn't seem to do much on mine.. Here are some pics of my machine:

| Danny - great looking car, sorry you have had a bit of a hard time with it! Can't help on the tensioner bearing, though I'm sure I've read of someone on here replacing one in the past without resorting to a whole assembly, so keep searching! Yes I think the TEMS on TT's is activated by the ECT switch, it should harden up the ride quite a bit. |

| danny do what i did regarding the tensioner pully. my bearing went on mine, all i done is took it off, went to bersons (repco or any other auto store will do). They mesured the baring and the size of the pully and mached it to another type of car... When they did this i think the Ford telster uses the same size,(dont quote me as it was a long time ago.) and for a bonus its steel so you dont have to worrie about it cracking. and whats even better it only cost me $14..

| Welcome Danny, I'm in the South-East too (Bulimba) and I'll have to keep an eye out for your Soarer - looks great and I love what you've done with the interior. If you're looking for a reputable mechanic, who is great with Soarers I have to recommend Wayne and Mick @ Tuff Toys in Love St, Bulimba. |

| to Soarer Central, Danny! You might want to try the track-day jumper setting and see if you can notice the difference with your suspension then. Enjoy! |

| Thanks for the warm welcomes guy, much appreciated. Kevin - yeah i went to repco and they measured it up with some calipers. It's a 95mm OD on the pulley which they matched to a chrysler but the bearing ID is 17mm which they couldn't match to much else, plus the pulley width of the chrysler was heaps wider. The chrysler was the only car in the catalogue with a 95 mm OD, heaps had 90mm and heaps had 100mm, but only the chrysler had 95mm. Peter - I will try the track day jumper setting, I did read that thread a while ago, hopefully I will see a difference there. I also think I noticed that when PWR is selected it seems to hold gears longer, that's why I was unsure whether it affected the suspension or the gearbox.. maybe both? Otherwise I might put a clamp meter around the cables to the Piezo and play with switch - if I get a DC current reading then at least I know there's something going on there. |

| Kieran - thanks for that. I already saw you recommended tuff toys to Julia Almond last month so I went and had a look at their website. i was a bit concerned about finding a mechanic with knowledge on the imports, this is a great help. I will definateley be taking mine there! I may even contact him regarding the pulley. |

| No Problem, Danny! I've only had my soarer for a month or two now and I'm still working out the kinks in mine and trying to fill the holes in my knowledge. Tuff Toys were recommended to me by Mel & Perry Morgan when I asked who was good at doing a pre-purchase inspection. Worked out great to have my mechanic less than 400m away from my house too! |

| Danny, you probably won't see a 0-1 change at the piezo, as the switch connects to the ECU which then changes the way it makes decisions. So the TEMs reacts differently depending on how it is being driven at the time. The jumper bypasses the ECU and clamps the piezo to it's tightest setting, so you are in stiff mode all the time. |

| Hi Danny. I have driven past your car a few times as it is often parked at the end of my street when I come home from work. I'll have to have a bit closer look at it next time as it's a clean looking machine |

| Danny, its really only the interior diameter that is important, as long as you get close with the exterior - I'd probably go with the 100mm rather than the 90 - it should work fine. |

Should do, the tensioner does have a good amount of movement in it. If they are cheap enough, you could always buy both and try the bigger one first - maybe even return it if you can't get the belt on? |

| Success guys! I did what Matt suggested and found that a pulley off a VS V6 commodore has the same bearing ID and the pulley OD is only 5mm smaller. I picked one up from repco for $39, put it on and it's still well within the range marked on the tensioner arm. also it's metal so I can just replace the bearing in future. It all runs sweet now and even at redline the tensioner is well within limits. I'll keep an eye on it as it gets older and stretches but initial indications are promising. |

No they don't. - I got supplied a 2JZ tensioner by mistake when doing the 100k service on my old tt. Over-tensioned the belt making it run very noisy. The noise was the only thing that made me look into it further. The bearing and roller are the same, by the way. The angle on the arm are different between the two. |

| Hi Danny, Nice car. I also have a problem with the oil pressure warning coming up randomly, I put it down to a faulty sensor as the engine runs so well and doesn't drop oil pressure |

| For anyone who is interested, I picked up a tensioner bearing from a Holden parts center (Repco had none in stock throughout Auckland!) Holden part number 92063903 - Pulley A/C IDL (there are a number of idler pulleys on the Buick 3.8 V6 so make sure you get the right one) $40.40 NZ, including GST. I've just fitted it this afternoon - very easy, didn't even need to take the tensioner off the front of the engine. Seems a good fit. The old pulley bearing was basically ceased and there were a few metal filings visible. It was all steel construction, but the replacement bearing is clearly of better quality, so score one for Holden there anyway. Now my car is slightly defiled by having a Holden part in it. Better than the $600 that Toyota wanted for a new tensioner though. |
