Gidday All. Just wanted introduce myself. It sure is great to be in the Soarer world!
I'm no expert on cars and engines but know my way around.
Respect to everyone for you ideas advice and info-filled posts. I have used the forum to research my new buy. I've got plenty to share about my first experiences with parts and pricing etc.
Here is a quick list anyway:
1. ECU reset worked like a charm!
2. AIR FILTER - New Town Toyota WA - $70.00 Part# TO-1780146060
3. OIL FILTER - New Town Toyota WA - $25.00 Part# TO-90915YZZD4 - Piece of cake to replace jacked left side a bit to make it easy to remove under-shroud and remove filter and drain oil. - Re: Jacking - Just as well I read a thread about switching off TEMS from the in-boot switch!
4. OIL - New Town Toyota WA - 2 x 5L Fully Synthetic Toyota Oil 5w 40. - $60.00 /5L Part# TO-08880800517c - Was going to get Mobil 1 same price but was easier to get this one.
- 5 /40 maybe too thin but we'l see. She seems to like it. - Used just a smidgeon over 6L to fill.
5. PLUGS - New Town Toyota WA - Toyota [Denso] Platinums Part# TO-PK20R11 - $15.00 ea [$120.00] but wait theres more!!! - They sold me TO-PK20R8 and were dead-set they were correct for that model. The car had R11's and I knew it needed those but like an idiot newbie I accepted the R8's. Anyway I didn't change them and they let me swap the R8's for R11's at no extra cost and so I ended up saving about $25-$30!!
6. LEADS - Faulkners AutoPro Bentley WA [Tel: 0892586644] - $185.00 Part# Top Gun TG-8046 - $200 everywhere but I sweet talked these guys into a better price what nice people they are! NOTE: Haven't changed the plugs and leads yet. Can't wait. She'll run even smoother. I think the leads have never been changed! [180000kms]. After I removed one of the plugs and leads and checked the resistance it was no good and since then it's seems to be missing and running slightly rough so playing with the old lead stuffed it methinks.
7. FUEL - DID YOU KNOW that the standard Shell is now 95 OCTANE?? Why pay much more for BP 96 or 98 or Caltex 98 when Shell standard ULP is 96?
SPREAD THE GOOD WORD MY BROTHERS & SISTERS: Shell Standard ULP is 96 octane. My V8 GT-L loves it!
- I am getting between 6-7kms /litre [about the accepted 14L /100kms. That's mainly city driving and giving it a bit too. I think once I've done the plugs and leads it will only be better.
8. FINANCE - RACWA Financed the car. Got 10.34% members discount with full income protection. They also refunded the $200 Auto Inspection [even if some of it was a crock of u-know-what..] - Had issues with non-secured loans from others due to imports.. BAH..!
9. INSURANCE - Same thing... imports hard to insure. - Rang the Insurance Industry Ombusdman they recommended some places. - Torque sold me full cover [full NCB] and agreed value on $12.5k for $665 per annum. NICE! - Details: Steve Walter Manager, WA TORQUE INSURANCE [Lumley General Insurance Limited] Phone 08 9220 8212 Fax 08 9220 8211 Email swalter@lumley.com.au
10. OTHER - Changed my low beam headlights. -- Malz's Cannington WA -- $18.00 ea Part# NARVA HB3 12V 60W P20D [White light] PLUS 30. They are much better. Not a fan of Artic Blue. No Plus 50's in stock they were like $23 ea. Now I have to clean & cut my right side lens cover...
There are other things but I won't bore you now.
I have HEAPS of questions to ask. Mainly about suspension, air/con, cam belt, and exhaust.
Have some fun experiences to share also about car covers, canvass car ports, and paint chips and touch up paint.
Looking forward to meeting some WA owners [especially V8 GT's].
Also NEED A GRIFFIN BADGE please - anyone got one for a newbie?

Wow, VVTi Turbo Manual huh?
When only the best will do
I just had a look at your profile it cracked me up. You got nice wheels too they are very similar to mine.
Regarding manual conversion, it would be wise to get into contact with Neil Griffiths from Rush Imports (no doubt you've already encountered him on the site). He seems to be in the know with regards to converting V8 soarers.
I too would like a 6 speed manual. I wonder how expensive it would be to convert to a 6 speed Supra Getrag?

And the difference between the number next to your last post and the number of messages actually shown using the search, is the ones that have been deleted - usually because they were in a since deleted buy/sell thread, or for SMS-speak.
