Brian!
I can't personally help with your question, but there is plenty of reading you can do while waiting for everyone else around here to wake up and help you out.

I looked at the 2jz, but i figured that i'd need to get the getrag 6-speed or 5-speed tranny too to hold the power, and thats gonna cost 6-7 grand for just the engine/tranny.

Brian, I highly recommend that you do not discount the idea of a 2JZ-GTE in time. If you get a pay rise in a year or 2 you might be able to afford it. If you want to do it progressively you could do a 2JZ-GTE conversion using your existing manual gearbox, which I assume is a W58 or similar. It is weaker but it will last you a while behind a 2JZ-GTE. If you were thinking of a 1JZ swap, you may as well do the 2J, as your existing gearbox won't be too happy behind the 1J either. When you can afford it you can buy an R154 gearbox and matching tailshaft. Or visa versa - maybe do the gearbox before the engine. I'll have an R154, flywheel, clutch, tailshaft and diff coming up for sale later in the year, but I imagine the freight to Colorado would be preventative. You would never regret it if you put a 2JZ-GTE in your car. It would be a very special vehicle. PS: Love the state you are living in. I've spent a month there on 3 separate times in December/January .. fantastic. That state is so full of life and sooooo many things to get into. The outdoor life there is great.

You know Michael, you made a good point. A 2jz would be pretty rad. It would probably swap over much easier than the 1jz too, just because its esensially the same engine. As for the 1.5jz idea, ive heard some good things, and some bad things, and i think its kind of a hit or miss plan. Plus i was planning on running boost. Byron: i don't currently have the engine out, but in any case the engine already has 128,000 miles (probably at least 200,000 k) on it. I think shipping could be an ordeal too.
