Hi all, Well I'm new and hail from Brunei and Sydney. I bought my Active soarer end of 2005. its badged a lexus sc400. I test-drove it once and then decided i had to have it. stock standard jap import, Red with full black leather interior. What was I getting myself into buying an active? I got a great deal on it and really low Kms like less than 15,000 for a '94 car!
thought it was sweet but the suspension caved in as soon as i got the keys in my pocket then the roller coaster began. So it took like 7 months to get the new struts from japan. so no driving the car at all during the wait...then the workshop tried to start the car.
That is where i am now from six months ago. SOMEHOW the ecu was overloaded and it looks like a small fire went off inside the ecu! so up till now no driving the car...
I have been everywhere looking for a replacement but was told my model has a different ecu pinout that is impossible to find a replacement. mid94 to mid 95 and only 43 cars made with it. cant get one new as they stopped production 10yrs ago and fat chance at getting a second hand one with so few around.
I think i have 2 options. 1.get another model v8 ECU and with pinout diagrams do a transplant. getting pinouts has been the sticking point 2.send the ECU with a hole in it to get repaired- but this needs internal wiring diagrams and a real expert to do and probably really expensive too! plus no one can give me internal wiring diagrams either!

Mate sorry to here this news ....they may have jumped the car to start it!...very unlucky...Zul could you put a pic on showing the pins then we know what to look for....32s are worth the effort

Yes its often called a fields harness, its so you can tap ( cut) into the wires on the connector to run a piggyback computer without touching the original harness. So when you remove the piggyback its as simple as unplugging it, and plugging the original harness directly into the ecu.

zul this guy may be of some help ..hlemmens@optushome.com.au,...I belive he may be able to repair your ecu .....all the ones i have found have found only have 3 inlets ...it seems as if the 16p is missing??

Hi Dave, I emailed Harry a while back- mid march but he never replied. i assumed he was not interested or the email address is a dud= same as above. so I'm sending it to Damien Ware who said he will look at it. Thanks Damien!
yeah i haven't had much luck with locating another ecu but must keep looking as there is no guarantee that it can be repaired at all.

If you can get hold of a standard UZZ30/31 ECU from the 94 - 95 period with the same pin-out Damian should be able to swap the processor chip over from your UZZ32 ECU providing the chip survived whatever originally caused the damage. The only difference I'm aware of between UZZ32 and UZZ31 ECU's is the ROM map code stored in the processor chip itself. Supposedly the 32 ECU has some extra low down grunt added at the expense of fuel economy to help compensate for the additional weight of the car and the power used by the suspension pump. A UZZ31 ECU will work fine in a UZZ32. It would possibly be a bit slower off the line but many people have tried the swap both ways successfully.
Looking at the production diary there were thousands of V8 Soarers made that have compatible ECU's to yours so finding one should not be impossible. You could also try MInes and see if they would produce one for you as a a special order. They will re-map an ECU to your specification if you supply it and you could do worse than losing the speed limiter and having the wick turned up a bit. The cost is not outrageous and it would almost certainly perform better than the original ECU fitted to your car.
The different connector and pin-out on the 94 to mid 95 V8's is annoying but not an insurmountable problem. I think it's also worth checking if Toyota can supply a new UZZ31 ECU from the equivalent month to your UZZ32. It could be worse, there were only 12 ECU's made for the mid 95 to 96 UZZ32's and they are a different pin-out again but using the the earlier connectors with sequential injection and 4 oxygen sensors.

Roger, wow that is a lot of information. thanks. I have considered the aftermarket ecu but concerned about the rest of the functions like the digital display etc. Would a Mines ecu have that functionality- who knows what else it might not cover? You know i did ask castle hill toyota for the uzz31 ecu but same deal- stopped production.
It's frustrating as i have not found one ecu with the same pinout in the 6 months of looking. actually more has happened in the short while of SC than the other 5 months!
I don't mind having to use another model uzz31 or other year as long as it'll fit there are heaps of those! but how could i get around the fact the pinouts are different?
I do take some comfort in knowing that 43 is better than the 12 haha.
I think if this repair don't work then i'll have to go with Neil's option of TT ecu- harness and piggyback. But i'm still looking

The Mines is an OEM Toyota ECU remapped and includes all the standard functionality. Normal changes are different timing and fuel maps along with the speed cut removed and sometimes the RPM limit raised. They are a straight swap with the stock unit but my guess is Mines would need you to supply a UZZ31 ECU with the correct pin-out for them to modify. All the digital displays and diagnostics work as normal on a Mines and yes the digital speedo will not magically develop the ability to read over 200 km/h, It only has a 1 in the display and the digits don't rollover.
Your chances are good of getting a JDM UZZ30/31 ECU of the correct type with Dave and Neil looking as well. If it was me I would be chasing two, one to get the car mobile and the second to do the processor swap or Mines upgrade. A stock ECU should be fairly cheap and you don't want to be experimenting without a spare.
Did you source four new complete suspension struts for your car and have you rebuilt the suspension valve-body?
