Many of you probably know me from Toymods but this is my first SoarerCentral Post and its customary to introduce.

I have two Toyotas, a 1997 SW20R MR2 Bathurst (Plate - SW20WA) and more recently I've acquired a 1990 GZ20 Soarer GT Limited Twin Turbo (Plate - GZ20WA).

As the Soarers the important one here, Just a bit of a background about it. Its a 1GGTE Gen III.

I acquired the car less than a month ago, damn cheap. In fact the car was in pristine nick and the price I got it for was unbelievable. It was in literally complete stock form except for a Turbosmart BOV and Generic Boost Gauge. The only known problem with the car was that both CT12's were blown. No major issue, I picked up two CT12's and 20 hours later I was now running around on 9psi.

Already since I've bought it, I've upgraded the stereo to a JVC deck and Cadence 4" in the front with Cadence 6x9" in the back. I've also thrown the stock wheels out in favour of 18" SSR Varden Sport rims (18x8+18x9 | +45/+48)running Maxxis MAV-1's on 235/40/R18 all round. I've got Cusco Zero-1 Coilovers in a shipping container on its way from Japan at the moment. I've also changed to a newer and larger Bosch battery.

It doesn't stop there though, also I've added an Apexi S-AFC, an Apexi AVC-R, Autogauge Smoked Water Temp, Oil Pressure, AFR and Boost Gauges, and HKS Turbo Timer.

However, running around on boost, the 1G developed a slight overheating problem, and much as I could have fixed it, I couldn't be bothered.. As ultimately I had the same goal a lot of Z20 owners had.

1JZ

So after a nightmare of a time ending up with a JZZ30 donk in the garage and it not being compatible for anything i need.. I have arranged it to be returned tomorrow and refunded. With that I will be getting a proper JZA70 clip this time and doing it right.

So, yes i have the JZA70 crossmember, 1JZ-GTE, auto box, Semi-Solid State Urethane engine mounts, loom, ecu, wiring all ready to go! :-) Its only a matter of time now before the cars running as a fully fledged JZZ20!

Not to mention the big 600x300x76 FMIC and piping i've acquired as well to bolt up to this engine :-) Also have acquired a 3" HKS Dump Pipe, and will be having a custom exhaust made from the dump pipe back with a 5" Cannon i've acquired also.

Exciting things underway! Stay Tuned! :-)

thanks mate, soon as i work out how to post pics i'll add the tech part to the thread. its a pretty simple swap as most of it bolts straight in.

oh incidentally the 1GGTE is for sale now too.

1GGTE Gen III + Auto Box. Turbos i've replaced are gen II Turbos with a slightly modified (angle grinder ftw!) gen III intake pipe :-)

there is a small overheating issue at the moment. car showed negative in the TK test for BHG.. so im guesstimating the problem is water pump related.

$1000 for the package with ECU/Loom/Engine/Mounts/Box

thanks fellas.

yeah i had a nasty time since i picked up my 1JZ on thursday night when it was dropped off at the garage. after being told it was a JZA70 donk, we got up close and personal with it and found that it in actual fact was a JZZ30 donk.

today we inspected it in a lot more detail.. seems there are a lot of things that need replacing/changing on it and it just was working out to be too painful a task to do. loom was cut and rotten in many areas.. alternator wiring had been cut.. throttle cable connector was bent.. rust on the dipstick (uh oh!) so id hate to see what the inside of the block was like.. oil was mouldy and crusted under the oil cap so yeah i was not happy.

however the seller agreed to take the engine back and give me a refund so that'll happen tomorrow.

got the Bling Garage to source me a new JZA70 donk which I believe we've found already because just by a spot of luck.. another JZA70 owner with an auto 1JZ (which is what i want) rocked up who is looking to manualise their JZA70. and we'll end up doing a swap. I'll pay for half his cut and end up with all his current auto 1JZ setup. good deal if you ask me! :-)

This will all probably happen in about 2 weeks time now :-)

well the auto package ended up not getting anywhere.

the guy who was providing me with the engine decided he wasn't going to go ahead with his conversion.

but that meant i picked up his manual jza70 cut for CHEAP! :p

like.. $3000 cheap :-)

So here we go, R154 + 1JZ, beginning transplant this weekend. Stay Tuned!

and here it is in its final form, all its glory at Autosalon

yes i know some things are still imperfect. like if you look hard enough you can still see Sikaflex stuck to parts of the skirts, my rear parcel shelf got lost 2 days before so i had to dodge up a new one out of MDF. and many other things.. but the main thing is, it was my goal to get it there. i got it there. and was happy i did it all in 4 months :-)
