Greetings all. After 5 or 6 years of looking I have finally purchased a V8 ltd soarer. Needs a lot of work to bring it to the standard of most of the cars on this site, but goes like a rocket and is much fun to drive. The first thing it needs is a priest to perform an exorcism to remove the ghost that locks and unlocks the doors randomly through the night....

Thanks, good to be here!
The lock magic is real, they flick while driving, while parked, and in the middle of the night when it hasn't been touched for hours. Its an interminant fault, sometimes wont happen for a few days, sometimes it happens all day. Im currently focusing on the door lock ecu, looking at all its 'lock' and 'unlock' signals that come from various parts of the car. Have you heard of a fault like this before?

Yep, has a after market alarm but the problem was there before it was installed. I have made the mod to allow the alarm to control the door locks. Good idea, will source a spare door ECU this week.

Paul.
Mine did it for a while, and it turned out to be the main power wire that goes through the rubber bellows/conduit thingy between the body & the drivers door.
(not unusual, as a few members have had it happen now)
Turned out the wire was severed from years of opening & closing the door and would intermitantly make contact, which would cause the central locking to it's "Thing" while driving along.
There's a tutorial on here about how to do the repair (quite easy).
Have a look under the Soarer tips & fixes section.
ps: I'm not saying that's definitely what's happening with your car, but the symptoms sound very similar.

haha funny, nothing wrong with covering arse :-) Thought I had problem solved the other day after isolating the wire from the keyless entry module, but alas, once again in the middle of the night... Click click click.... Thanks for the tip Don ill have a look. Thanks for the tip Adam I wont assume the door lock ghost is busted...

Yeah Paul Don is probably right, My Toyota van does same thing when you open and close doors and you can move the wiring loom around where it goes into body by bottom of door and get locks to do same. Wire shorting out in the loom but I put up with it. Wouldnt put up with locks clicking up and down in Soarer though.
