Thanks Cara, Shannons wouldn't insure me anyway as a soarer won't be able to get up my driveway without bottoming out massively so I can't keep it garaged.

I think I will go with Just Car.

I've been looking at a V8 soarer, and apparently the suspension is leaking. How bad is this and how much to repair? I'm pretty sure it's air suspension.

If its a UZZ31, expensive depending on where exactly it is leaking. A better option might be to replace the struts with coilovers, which is a pretty cheap option.

If its a UZZ32, expensive AND difficult to get done, again depending on exactly what the problem is.

Personally if a car I'm interested in has an obvious problem like that, I walk away from it unless the seller agrees to fix it, or knock a huge chunk of cash off the price. If you are buying something, it might as well be in working order when you get it.

It's the UZZ31 I think, air suspension is what the guy told me. The suspension is also adjustable if this helps.

If I put coilovers on will the suspension still be able to adjust?

And any idea on rough prices for both options?

If you replace the struts with coilovers, you wont be able to use the factory height switch to adjust the height.

The airbag strut is very expensive and cost around $900 for one.

Dont' rush and take your time to find a nice UZZ31, or you can browse on the car for sale section on the forum.

How much would coilovers cost to put on including labour? And would a Toyota dealership or someone like that do it? I don't have any mechanical experience.

If I put coilovers on in the short term, will I be able to put air suspension back in later on?

It might sound stupid but does the air suspension affect the back wheels too or just the front? (so if i got it replaced would it cost 1800 or 3600?)

1. $1800-$2500 roughly depending on brand & type of coilovers installed. Don't go to Toyota go to a suspension shop or local soarer specialist.

2. Yes you could revert to the old suspension.

3. Yes all 4.

Thanks mate! It looks expensive whether I put coilovers or new struts.

Is there a list of specialist Soarer mechanics because I've searched and I can't seem to find any (Central Coast/Newcastle/Sydney area)

Paden from Unique Automotive is a great guy and has done all of the work on both my Soarers and Supra. He is very well known on the Supra forums.

But seeing as you are looking for a mechanic in the Central Coast area, I would say Niall Bond in Bondi would be your best bet. He is very well recognised on this forum and many members take their cars to him to get it serviced/repairs/work done.

Niall has my car right now.Great bloke, knows soarers inside out.
Its always reassuring to take your soarer to a mechanic and see 15 other soarers parked there.
He's in botany though,not bondi

So I've bought an 1996 SC400 pearl white with TEMS (air suspension) and 97,000 kms with a minor dent and one small scratch. Immaculate interior kept in really good condition by the owner, features are working well.

Pics to come (I'll give it a wash when the rain stops!)

Few questions, it hasn't been lowered, where can I do this and roughly how much for?

My mates jumped in the back seat and the passenger chair was sliding properly back and forth (electronically). But now it has slid forward and wont slide back. I have mucked around with all the buttons but it won't go back. Will this have to be looked at or is there some sort of manual override?

Ill be selling my lowered suspension soon if you're interested :-)

I absolutely love the facelifted soarers. Pearl white with some dark tint is the best.

Roughly how much for?

The passenger seat is working fine now!

But I would like to know if anyone has instructions for how to use the display, as I have no idea what the buttons (in Japanese) do?

I've search around a bit, so sorry if this is a common question, but can't find any info. I have the instruction guide but the display is different to mine (I have the large screen whereas the instructions are for the one line screen).
