Ok guys i've done the sender clean tutorial for the fuel gauge fix. However, its still not working.

I'm thinking i've done it wrong, or haven't done it properly.

Is the locator suppose to move? Is the whole purpose of the exercise just to clean those rods?

The locator should be movable. Just push it up a tad so it seats itself properly when the centre probe is pushed back in.

The fuel gauge flashes in the "full" position when I start the car, then after about 5 mins it stays in the empty position.

I couldn't move the locator, and I gave it a fair bit of force- though I was going to break it.

I've reset it a couple of times now, still no luck. The fuel button does nothing. Scroll button does nothing too.

It flashes like this.

No, filled it to the top last week- got 60L into it. No change.

I read something the other day about this happening with mis-matched dashes. How can I tell if I've got the right one? My scroll button does nothing.

I'm starting to think the previous owner has changed the dash (possibly after a dose of the blinks) and in the process has missed a cable or two (and put the wrong dash in.)

Shouldn't the emv still tell me how much fuel i have?

Well, i have the same challenge as well. The thing is that the originally the car was a 1JZ auto. The owner swapped in a 1JZ manual, therefore changing the dash meter as well, and later found out that the number of wires from the fuel sender and the meter does not match. I think the wireman told me that there are 5 wires from the fuel sender (Auto) and 3 wires from the meter(manual). Been trying to get a auto meter to see if it works, but couldn't. Also been asking the wireman if he could loop the wires to make the gauge work, he tried and said he couldn't.

Alex,

The EMV doesn't tell you how much fuel you have left but its does tell you how far you can travel with the fuel left.

From the photos, you may have the UZZ30 dash.

Thats definitley a JZZ30/31 post '94 dash. Its the same as mine, with the gear indicator rather than the warning screen, and the same light clusters.

Thanks for confirming that for me- looks like i'll be chasing a uzz31 dash and selling a jzz30 dash in the near future.

The EMV won't even tell me the distance remaining...

Strange, maybe something to do with the wrong dash?

So that why the EMV doesn't shows how the distance remaining.

The "pov pack" dash released with the JZZ31 in 1994 is designed to work with the smaller fuel tank and more conventional float type fuel sender unit - so its probably getting entirely the wrong signals from the more complex sender unit and larger tank in your car.

Thanks Daniel, I'm chasing it up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I take out my dash, connect new dash and problem should be solved. I get my TEMS light and fuel gauge... Just follow the dash removal tutorial?

No worries Alex,

Yep if the new dash is put in, its should fix the problem you have and you should have the TEMS & Height display in the dash.

Also when you have the new dash, maybe as well do the blinky dash fix too.
