Hi from Melbourne
just got my first Soarer TT about a month ago and as the thread title suggests it is a dream finally realised.
Straight out of the block, first question, I haven't got my Soarer fully serviced or tuned yet so does anyone know an experienced and competent mechanic who specialises in Soarers, preferably in the northern suburbs?
Second question, my friend was driving behind me one evening and I decided to gun it to pull away from him. He pulled up next to me at the next traffic lights and told me there was fair bit of smoke coming from the exhaust when I sped away (oil burning!). The engine was warm because I was driving it normally for about 20 minutes beforehand and there is heavy black deposits in the exhaust... I'm thinking piston rings are gone, but I could be wrong (I hope I'm wrong and its nothing too serious). If anyone agrees (or disagrees) let me know.

All it means is that you're using more fuel than you need. I'm pretty sure most if not all soarers are running rich as standard.
To fix it, get something like an Apexi SAFC, and when you get it tuned get the dyno guys to make it more lean (less fuel). So only a few hundred $$$ + tune.
