Hello everyone.

My real name is Chris, but everyone knows me as Hermie (long story, kinda forgotten it now ) and considering I am posting in this forum, I recently bought a Soarer!

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f186/HermieVTTYGA/TT%20Soarer/WideShot.jpg

It's a 1992 JZZ30 (which I'm sure you all know is the 1JZ-GTE TT) in dark green, with just over 110,000kms on it.

It came with a few mods:

HKS Turbo Timer
Apexi Boost Gauge
Custom Dump Piping
3” Exhaust System to Twin 4” Tips
HKS SSQV BOV
Cypher CAI Piping and foam filter
5” Lowering – Lovells Springs Cut
18” Vork Grey Rims
JBL 6x9” Parcel Shelf Speakers
Pioneer DEH-3950MP Head Unit
Dark Black Limo Tint

<img>

Yes, i was shocked by the lowering too, couldn't really be driven on the road, it scraped on simple changes in road level doing 40kph, let alone bouncing at 100kph on the freeway.

<img>

I have since raised the car (first time i've ever said that about a car I've owned haha) with a set of Kings Lows making it a 3" lowering from stock, which is quite nice and manages to get up driveway kerbs now - so functional too.

A few bits were in disrepair - drivers exterior door handle not functioning, interior door handles both cracked (a common damage point in soarers I am seeing) and one of the wheel bolts was stripped by a careless airgun user. I have had those issues fixed, but one really hit me.

3 weeks after purchasing the car, the turbo's died. I spent a lot of time researching people's responses and what they did / diagnosing and the end result, ultimately I had the turbo's rebuilt last week, all put back together and boosting better than ever. So firstly, I would like to thank you all for operating such a fantastic source of information for other Soarer owners, and I figured I would get my car working before my first post!

My next issue is the climate control unit - it doesn't work. I have checked all cabling today, fuses fine, pulled the unit apart and nothing looks blown on the boards, but two of the buttons light up at night, so power seems to be going to the unit but it does not actually function, so I am on the lookout for a 2nd hand one if any are up for sale.

Car currently runs at about 1 bar (14psi or so) and I don't have any intention in going higher, lower if anything. This is my daily driver, and I don't feel like blowing the turbo's again any time soon.

Anxious for the drags to open again in the warmer months to log a time, a low 14 would give me a smile, coming from a V6 VT Commodore (VT TYGA - that can be in another post - all about my previous "mistakes" hahahahhahaa) and once I have an idea of my power and E/T, I intend to slowly work from there with some small mods to make it a bit more enjoyable - FMIC, Piggyback ECU, FCD, the usual stuff.

Today, I did the headlight cleanup - and I am amazed at the difference.

<img><img>

So all in all, its getting there, and after 2 months I have a working car and a wealth of knowledge available on this forum.

I look forward to becoming a valuable member of the soarer community!

Hermie

Welcome mate,

Glad to see your enjoying your car.

At the original height of that car you could have put a blade on it and cut the grass. lol

Also good work on cleaning the headlights, it makes a huge difference in the look of the car.

Hermie. The story behind the name might be interesting at some point. :-)

It sounds like you have your plans sorted out.

Does anything work to do with the climate control? eg Temperature change through the air vents etc?

Welcome Chris!

Glad to see that you are enjoying your car.

For your climate control unit problem - you may try and see if you can still get in on this group buy going on in the Group Buys section of the site. Here's the link for you mate -

A low 14 will be a walk in the park with dumps, exhaust, CAI and 14psi.

Some of the guys on here were/are running 11.XX with standard turbos.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

Also glad to see a bit of a crack down on the spelling and grammar of posts - looks much more professional.

Happy to hear that a low 14 will be easy - as soon as I'm in high 13's I will be satisfied! haha

The climate control unit has no function at all - no fans, temp, demist, a/c or anything. However two buttons light up at night - suggesting power is getting to the unit (therefore fuses/cabling etc is all good) so I think its an internal issue with the unit itself. I'm a bit worried about buying another unit, plugging that in and it still doesn't work, so I will be on the lookout for a wrecking model or any 2nd hand units. There are a few in the U.S, however that means fahrenheit - and I just could not live with that :-) haha

Thanks for the comments on the rims - they are very nice with the chrome edge on them, and I have always like a dark car with dark rims. Also 18's are functional, a decent size upgrade without the tyre budget to blow it out.

That original photo - to get it on that grass area at the front of our house - it would literally scrape the front bumper, and while driving over the grass I could hear the grass being whipped, so yes some blades on a rotor would have worked wonders!

Is there much of a W.A following on here? Any cruises/events organised in the west? Or are you all mostly eastern states/N.Z based?

Great to meet you all.

Chris

(oh and Hermie - well basically when I was 18 I wasn't going out much with the group and was considered a "Hermit" and the girls of the group nicknamed me Hermie - the name kinda stuck. However I am not a hermit anymore - especially with a few hairdryers under the bonnet :-) )
