hi guys and girls I have just bought myself a 91 sc 400 from sydney and had it driven back to adelaide by a mate ( brave i know). I am wondering if anyone can recomend me to someone in adelaide who can repair the touch screen and instrument cluster. From reading other threads the problems sound pretty common the touch screen flickers then goes out and the dash stays out when the car is cold flickers a bit as it warms up then works a1 for the rest of the day. Also i dont seem to have any disc changer operation maybe due to the touch screen. The radio does not seem to have convertors fitted either as I only get a couple of low frequency stations and i have heared that with a bit of playing around the tv etc can be got working in oz. I am a mechanic by trade so can do r&r work myself but as the other toys i play with include a 27 chev a 65 tbird and a couple of 70s and 80s fairlanes hitting electronics of this level are a bit away from my repairer data base. Alternatively someone interstate that does change over stuff with fitting mod instructions would get me out of trouble from reading some threads it seems that the bloke everyone recomended for a lot of this stuff has passed away so I am wondering if anyone else has carried on or taken over from him cheers brett
Welcome Brett, good to see another SA Soarer owner. Keep your eye on the SA Events section for details of the next Fix It Day or Cruise. There are a couple of regular attendees to the fix it days that have experience in fixing the blinky dash amongst other things. Interesting what you say about your EMV screen flickering when it's cold and then working ok once it's warmed up as mine is doing the same thing. My CD's work fine though so I'm not sure it's related.
Tisonics on Magill Rd have the expanders you need for your radio, they're only about $20 each from memory and there's an easy tutorial on this site on how to fit them.

Very nice old Chev...............lovin the T'bird and the Fairlane looks very mint!
ps; You're right, it's not a horn on the Chev, it's a high pressure blower that blasts air onto the fan blades.........making the old girl go much faster

Hi, Welcome I had the same question! I bought a UZZ32 in Sydney and my wife went down to Sydney to pay and drive it 2500km back, It had a one day old roadworthy certificate. Qld transport inspection revealed 4 leaking struts and stuffed bushes and some stuffed electronics and failed the car. The damage well over $7K. I trusted the inspection system and NSW RTA says they will only collect intelligence on this inspecter. If I had known I would have thought twice about buying it or reduced the price and never would have let my beloved wife drive it back. However on the money side, everytime I look at the car and read further about its capabilities it doesn't seem to matter, what does matter is making it perfect again.
